Didn't someone say Sewell looked great at LT?
Apparently he did in the first half. Second half was a different story.

It says a lot when one of the best young pass rushers in the game was moved against our RT for most of the game. It wasn't the whole game, but clearly, they liked their chances getting a rush with Young against Bulaga/Norton than Slater.

They still tried to attack Slater and confuse him with some games and blitzes, but that didn't work any better. Slater had a pretty good game.

His kickout block on the opening drive that got Ekeler the TD was a thing of beauty. There was an unblocked DB who came down to fill then squeeze the hole off of Feiler's block. The WR or TE outside, comes in to block down, but the DB is past him, so has to leave him. But Slater forces Young to run around him by about a mile, and Ekeler was a mile past the DB even before he gets a chance to try and tackle him. The DB was too far inside, but if Slater doesn't force Young so wide, it is a much tougher run. Ekeler made a nice cut, but Slater made the play happen.

Also great to watch Slater and Ekeler work together in pass pro. Watch the rep on Herbo’s completion to Palmer if you wanna see a prime example of that.

Staley seems to have found the way to get some of the usual knuckleheads to get their heads out of their asses. They looked a little lost on the 2nd and 3rd drives of the game, but other than that, they really seem to lack the usual Charger stupid play and lack of urgency. It's kinda nice.

Cutting out the stupid play calling helps too.

Slater is a stud, 10 yr starter at LT, TT got lucky Slater fell.
A little lucky, but he also had great patience. This is why I don't like trading up. It's important to remember that people are idiots and always think they are smarter than the crowd. Someone always drops why shouldn't. Just stand pat and take them or even trade down if you want.

On a separate note, think of the massive cap advantage the Chargers will have over the next few years. Look at teams like the Packers, Niners, Texans and soon to be Ravens at how much they will be spending on QB and LT. The next two years the Chargers may be saving $40-45 million over those teams with similar production. That's 1/5 of the salary cap. After that Herbert's fifth year option kicks in, but is still reasonable.

                    Per Gavino Borquez:

“On the afternoon, Slater did not allow a single pressure to arguably the stiffest competition that he will face this season.”

                    Pepsi Rookie of the Week?

Geoff Schwartz loves him some Slater.

He's also a Ducks fan so he's big on Herbert too.
