Hence - why I think Bosa and/or Allen will be gone. They make a lot - Allen can be cut; Bosa - probably has trade value. The chargers did all that this year without Bosa. Allen - not getting younger and faster. I just see a guy like Diggs that gets open downfield - allen has been a very good player. But the Chargers need that guy that can get open downfield. It makes such a difference to get 40-50 yards in one play and not many plays

These are tough decisions - but in a salary cap world - you can be somewhat proactive or you can model after the Saints. I don't think the Chargers should go crazy with the Saints model for either Bosa or Allen. I wouldn't mind keeping Mack one year

At least Denver won't be getting Harbaugh

            Around the NFL

Jim Harbaugh to remain as head coach for University of Michigan

            Published: Jan 16, 2023 at 05:52 PM

            Eric Edholm Lead Draft Writer

Rapoport: Harbaugh will remain HC at Michigan

Jim Harbaugh said two weeks ago that he expected to remain the head coach at the University of Michigan, and he's now stuck to his word, even with a few NFL franchises expressing interest in prying him away.

Michigan president Santa Ono tweeted that Harbaugh called him and "shared with me the great news that he is going to remain as the Head Coach of the Michigan Wolverines."

Ono said he shared the news with Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel, whose job just got a bit easier with this development.

Harbaugh confirmed the news in a tweet via the school, saying: "I love the relationships that I have at Michigan -- coaches, staff, families, administration, President Santa Ono and especially the players and their families. My heart is at the University of Michigan. I once heard a wise man say, 'Don't try to out-happy happy.' Go Blue!"

That now removes one big name from the NFL offseason coaching pool.

The 59-year-old Harbaugh was believed to be one of the Denver Broncos' prime candidates for their head-coaching vacancy, and the Carolina Panthers had met with Harbaugh in person over their current opening. He also had ties to other jobs, such as that of the Indianapolis Colts, for whom he played quarterback in the 1990s.

Harbaugh has been at Michigan since 2015, accruing a record of 74-25 in Ann Arbor and leading the Wolverines to the College Football Playoffs this past season. In January 2021, he signed a lucrative four-year contract extension through the 2025 season. That didn't stop Harbaugh from flirting with the Minnesota Vikings about their head-coaching position last offseason before he returned to college and Minnesota pivoted to hiring Kevin O'Connell.

But there's now a question if Harbaugh will ever return to the NFL coaching ranks.

He spent four years as the 49ers' head coach from 2011 to 2014, leading the team to three NFC Championship Game appearances and losing Super Bowl XLVII to the Ravens, coached by his brother, Jim. His record of 44-19-1 gives Harbaugh a win percentage of .695, which puts him behind only one active coach (Green Bay's Matt LaFleur at .712) and four Pro Football Hall of Fame coaches (Guy Chamberlin, John Madden, Vince Lombardi and George Allen) on the all-time list.

Harbaugh might be willing to listen to future offers and might always have an NFL team or two interested every January. But this is now two years in a row in which he made overtures to NFL teams about vacancies before turning around and heading back to Michigan, where he first played and now is coaching.

At least for one more year, you can stop connecting Harbaugh to open NFL jobs.

We made a commitment to a course of action. Now stick to it.

The best answer is not in an essay from a wordsmith, it is in the utter platitude that "the answer is simple, but not easy."

Frankly we are not good enough...yet.

And having supremely talented, and/or well coached teams hasn't gotten it done for us anyway.

Work hard. Become smarter. Get better. More consistently.

You're right - we are NOT good enough yet.

Most (but definitely not all) of our issues are not necessarily talent or physical ability related, but more the mental side - for both players and coaches. This is why we're made fun of every off season; we've got the talent on the roster to be very good, but we consistently underachieve and throw in an occasional howler . . . like Saturday.

Attitude adjustments for certain players and coaches are needed. All Pro means nothing if you're not winning games. Can Staley overcome this?? Hard to say, since he's a significant part of the problem, but we're going to find out . . . .

                Again - that's great. I'm sure he'll get a nice bonus.

I thought so too..almost like the 2nd team players wanted to prove they could play..and they did very well..but I suppose when the guys who make the big bucks are ready...you just have to play them too much pressure not too...It would make you look like you did not know what you were doing right when you drafted him :>)

As punishment for that inexcusable epic collapse I think Brandon Staley should be taken the board room at Charger headquarters and be forced to watch everything that was said in football media today! Wont change anything but it might humble out the know it all attitude a little bit.

Firing would obviously be better but not hopeful there

Staley will be here next year, we will have some new faces, but likely finish how we did the last two seasons. No playoffs next year, don’t think 4 teams will go 1-16 over a critical 4 week span so we can back into a wild card spot, that was a multi-team meltdown every bit as epic as our suckage in the Jags game. Not seeing progress, just more of the same.

I told you guys they weren’t going to fire staley…I checked my phone all day but nothing happened…keeping lombardi is going to be the killer for me, I might have to take next year off rather than have a fucking stroke with lombo wasting another of herbert’s years…if it wasn’t the Spanos family it would almost be unbelievable…
