Chiefs signed LB Drue Tranquill, formerly of the Chargers, to a one-year contract.


Tranquill was a part-time player for the Chargers for three years but stepped into a larger role for the 2022 season. He started all but one game for LA last year and his numbers exploded. He led the Chargers in tackles while totaling five sacks plus 10 TFLs. He also forced a fumble and picked off one pass. Pro Football Focus graded Tranquill as one of the league's best inside linebackers in pass-rush and coverage situations. He should slot into a starting role for Kansas City in 2023.



Tranquill played in all 17 games for the Chargers last season. He led the team with 146 tackles — with five sacks and ten tackles for loss. He also recorded an interception.

He added a playoff interception off of Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence in Los Angeles’ Divisional Round loss.

In total, he was in on 93% of the Chargers’ defensive snaps with 114 special teams snaps added.

Yes, excellent in coverage. Better than Kendricks. But in the running game, Kendricks statistically is better. And that is where the Chargers need to improve - the point of attack and running game

His market value is in the toilet and a one year contract will allow him to shine under Spanuolo,
and then go after a better contract next year.

Supposedly the Chargers offered $7m on a multi year deal and he turned it down looking for more

Who offered him $5 million? White just got 2 years for $10 million after playing on a top 10 defense and a Super Bowl team.

I doubt he turned it down, and I doubt the Chargers would just offer him one year.


Watch him shine in KC and watch the 31 year old Kendriks pull a muscle in training camp and never really get comfortable with this defense.

Maybe he got his feelings hurt by the Kendricks signing? Maybe he wants a shot at winning a championship? Maybe the culture here wasn't enough? Maybe he likes the tax rates in Kansas better?? :lol::lol::lol:

He's a good player - but was also a problem for our run D. I expect him to be a 3rd and long specialist with KC. Given what they already have at LB this is a good signing for them, and will allow Dru to play to his strengths. Tranquill and Chenal will make a well matched duo and a pretty damn good 2nd string group. Better than anything we have (currently).
