From your tone I take it you still blame the cities.

So what do you suggest the teams do about it? It's their system you know.

I kind of get the feeling that we're at the beginning of a new paradigm where localities are just getting completely fed up with the NFL's model of externalizing it's costs onto the taxpayers while just absolutely raking in the cash. I wonder if this is peak power for the NFL when accounting for this and the concussion issue. The biggest problem is that the NFL business model has caused these stadiums to inflate in price at ridiculous levels, but their contributions have not matched that inflation rate. I'm ready to move on if they split town. I kind of look forward to more time to surf and play with my kids on sundays.

Not sure there is anything to do, seems a lot of fans are ready to move on, with good reason.

How about build a stadium with no obstructed views, an up to date wi-fi network, modern amenities, and maybe a retractable roof. The words "if you build it, they will come" come to mind. The costs of the NFL experience in SD is average, when compared to the rest of the league. They have put a competitive product on the field but still can't get the draw that they feel they need to remain competitive and maintain the value of their asset. In 06 they were 20th in attendance, and that was with a 14-2 playoff run season. The following year the attendance actually dropped, and last year they were 22nd in attendance. The product on the field doesn't have as much to do with it as one would think. The cost is average. So, logically speaking the venue must be playing a very large role and the place is a dump.

The writing was on the wall years ago when the Padres moved out. The 2nd strike was when the NFL told the City (not the Chargers) that their stadium was no longer up to par and they were out of the SB rotation. And here we are at strike 3. The Chargers have had enough. Their asset is at risk of losing value while the City has dragged its feet well past the 11th hour and you guys want to whine about what their saying or not saying like they owe you something. Entitled much? It was the City, not the Chargers, that weren't visionary enough to notice that their facility was not keeping up with the present day demands. The Chargers are tenants and they put their Landlord on notice years ago and that Landlord ignored them or pacified them by coming up with a band-aid fix called renovation. How can anyone fault the Chargers for seeking other options?

              More spin.

First off, the Padres were forced out because of the upgrades the city gifted to the Q (under no prodding from the Chargers). The Padres took it upon themselves to pursue the downtown site. Their mantra was "we need a new venue to be competitive" but they never resorted to the ugly bullshit the Chargers are now using (mostly because Larry Lucchino is a genius and Dean Spanos is not). Note, the city put up the funds for this upgrade. The Chargers gladly accepted it. They could've done what the Padres did but it was more cost effective to take the gift from the city.

Secondly, if you think the NFL (Tagliabue) dressed down the city like they did with no input from the Chargers, then I have a stadium site in Mission Valley I can sell you right now. Just wire me $500M directly to my bank account.

Everything that has happened to this current negotiations can be equally shared in blame by the city and the team. But right now, at this moment, the city is willing to deal and the Chargers are being assholes about it.

Thanks for bringing that up I thought that was one of the biggest bullshit collusion moves ever..... Tagliabue conspired with Spanos to scare everyone into a new stadium

And it didn't work excepted to jip everyone out of a fantastic Super Bowl experience in San Diego....really? Super Bowl's in Jacksonville Houston Indianapolis New York What a joke

The ugly bullshit came after the Padres got a new stadium and they are still to this day - shitting the sandbox - not competitive....

Red Herring, unless you're implying the Chargers will shit the bed too if they get a new stadium.

                      Only pointing out the obvious...

Imo the Chargers are a better playoff potential team than the Padres are this year and next for sure. The city would have been better off building a football stadium were Petco stands than a baseball only stadium buy team performance alone over those years...

And, even though I believe the Chargers are inflating their numbers, what happens in the LA market does affect them. So its just good business to keep an eye on that situation. Not to mention that its good business to have a 'Plan B' and LA has always been that to the Chargers. Their hand got forced by Kroenke. Did the Spani make their 'no hurry' comments before or after Kroenke became a legitimate threat to move into the LA market? It matters. Outside forces are at play and the Spani have to react. SD has waited to long and I don't think the City can react quick enough.

The only thing I will agree with you guys on is that the Spani should dump the mouth-piece and just come out and say what they want to see happen. But, at this point I don't think most of you would believe them anyway.
I kind of think they ARE hiding behind the EIR. Whether or not an EIR can be completed by October is perpendicular to the team negotiating a stadium with the city. If they agree on terms, then they'd simply extend their "deadline" in order to get their paperwork in order.
                        Prediction:
                        Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

The enormous leverage the NFL currently has vanishes once LA has one or two teams.
