Worst possible situation: a loss, Norton abused all night, and no Pipkens.
Bewildering that they so infrequently gave Norton help.

    WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

Now, they have to go RT early, or chase after the slim (to none) pickings in free agency.

    RT/corner are absolute musts

It's not like he was 10-15 yards downfield knocking dudes down.

It's like 3 seconds in basketball. Refs rarely call it strictly. It's a rule to prevent guys from camping out in the lane.
Yep. That was the way I saw it as well. Other side of the field from the play and no impact on the play. That same penalty cost us a TD against Dallas, another game heavily influenced by the refs.

Some facts that emotional fans cant see clearly:

Our WRs are not a great group at all. KA is a route runner who provides ZERO YAC. MW is not fast enough to get separation which means every ball to him is a 50/50 unless blown coverage. He will get nothing but slower. This had made Herbert basically be perfect all the time.

"Why don't we throw the whole game" - watch last night when we did. Herbert would not survive past game 4 of a season with the right side of the line like this. Lombardi and Stayley know this.

"We are talented" - Our DT and LBs are WELL below average. WRs overrated. O-line is halfway there. TEs average. D-line outside of Bosa below average. LBs are god awful. The secondary is probably above average. Sounds like a recipe for a below .500 team if we didn't have a special QB.

These analytics numbers are horse shit: they do not represent an actual statistical evaluation, because none is possible.

Declaring that the play had a 71% probability of success is horseshit.....what is the margin of error for this stat? Its probably extremely large.
If there is no margin of error, than the statistical analysis is horseshit.

And the win percentage of 41 % if successful vs. 43%: rinse that crap down the drain disposal.

And if Staley is using this nonsense in his game time decisions: FIRE THE IDIOT TODAY!!!!!!

Or send him to a physics lab this Spring where he can get some experience with the employment of actual valid statistical analysis.

It was a stupid decision magnified by an even dumber play call. Stuffed by ex Chargers Philon and Teamer

So almost everyone on the team is below average? How would you then rate the Raiders?

Easily half the team is. The NFL is like this now. Look how many teams in the playoffs are barely over .500. The NFL wanted parity and they have it. People want "depth". There are too many teams now to have quality depth.

Teamer played like we thought Mike Davis was going to play.

So, your complaint is that there was a penalty, but it shouldn't be called?

Players are called all the time for penalties that didn't have an impact on the play.

I was pulling for the Chargers. I felt like the Chargers were the better team. As a fan of the Chiefs, I wanted the Chargers in the playoffs because I felt like they had a chance to knock off the Titans if they made it through to the next round.

Even as someone who was pulling for the Chargers, I didn't see a poorly called game. Bad calls are made in every game. This one seemed pretty evenly called.

Feiler got abused and then called for a critical penalty. Slater was not an all pro last night. Crosby is up there with TJ Watt and nobody has a miter like him. Norton was just overmatched all night.

Needed our stars to show out and they didn’t. Keenan with another bad drop. Bosa made one play all night. Derwin was occupied with Waller which took him out of most plays. Herbert, Ek and MW played well.

Conventional wisdom has the Chargers punting there, but also attempting a FG on 4th and 2 from the 19 yard line in the 2nd quarter, where Staley went for it, they converted, and scored a TD on the next play. That was +4 pts over a successful FG, while the failed 4th and 1 was -3 as the Raiders kicked a FG. Net it was +1 pts.
