Exactly! Chemistry must be retained. Mike took a huge step in Lombardi's offense. 76 receptions, 1150 yards, and 9 TD's. That's too much to walk away from. That's hard to replace.
KA has 2 more good years left (with an escalating cap price). Are we making a SB push or not? Why haggle over 2-3 million...?
Can we get a long-term done? If we can't, it's F-Tag time. Nwosu, White, and Jones can be re-signed (especially with contract structures the way they are)... and still have room to re-build the DL through free agency. We're not that far away, people.

Arjun actually brought up Kenny Golladay's contract with NYG.
That is exactly a cautionary tale.
Golladay had Daniel Jones and Mike Glennon throwing to him...

A lot of people are talking Akiem Hicks. What about his running mate Bilal Nichols? Familiar with Staley, younger, cheaper and disruptive.

Chargers are not that far away if they make the right choices. One is and has been fiscal responsibility. Two taking care of the franchise. Three they need to address the defense, that has yet to happen. They make MW a fair offer, to get the privilege of being thrown to by Justin Herbert. 75 million four years. If that ain’t enough to stay and live in paradise then let him chase his money elsewhere.

Honestly would rather see them resign Derwin James with some of that capital, rest on defense in free agency. Talk about Keenan getting older, have a nice cluster of WR’s sitting in the green room who would love to play football for the Chargers with Justin Herbert. Drop your WR cost from 40 million for two to 25 million and build for that future. Not extending Mike is not as bad to me as letting Hunter Henry walk. One can easily be replaced the other hard to find.

Worth a look. If Staley likes him and the deal is right, yes.

Penny wise and pound foolish. MW is our Michael Irvin now. He’s the playmaker. He’s the guy who made plays at the end of the Raider game, against Pittsburgh and on deep balls.

I agree with everything you said except Hunter...I like Hunter but the dude is always hurt...you would still always lose him for 3-4 regular season games. But yeah if he would have signed hunter for $10 mill I probably would have kept him. We need more players who want jewelry on our team than ones and zeros in their bank account!

Not much if schlucky crummy teams run roughshod over one of the crappiest defenses I've witnessed in 20 years last season. I was pining for Gus back after witnessing that shit show!

                      Glennon is just dreadful.

if we don't resign MW and go with Palmer and draft a mid round WR, Keenan will see double teams and this offense will not be as effective.

                        8. KYZIR WHITE
                        2021 Snaps: 979
                        2021 PFF grade: 65.1 (22nd of 89)

White was a reliable presence at linebacker following the loss of 2020 first-rounder Kenneth Murray during Weeks 4-9 and when Murray was battling injuries over Weeks 11-15. White has had four straight seasons with coverage grades above 60.0, which is not an easy feat for an off-ball linebacker in today’s NFL against so many hi-lo concepts and the increase in run-pass options putting a ton of stress on the position.

Projected contract: Two years, $12.5 million ($6.25M per year), $8 million total guaranteed
                        4. B.J. HILL
                        2021 Snaps: 564
                        2021 PFF grade: 69.8 (30th of 125)

Right before the 2021 season, the New York Giants inexplicably traded Hill and a seventh-round pick for former Cincinnati Bengals center Billy Price – and Hill excelled with more opportunities on a less-crowded defensive line.

The former third-round draft pick is a solid all-around 3-technique with the ability to generate relatively consistent pressure from the interior. With increased playing time, he earned his third straight 70.0-plus season grade, producing a career-best 12 combined sacks and hits.

Projected contract: Three years, $26.25 million ($8.75 million per year, $14.5 million total guaranteed

                        6. LINVAL JOSEPH
                        2021 Snaps: 550
                        2021 PFF grade: 63.7 (46th of 125)

Joseph has long been one of the NFL’s premier nose tackles, and while his 63.1 overall and 49.3 run-defense grades in 2021 are both by far his lowest since 2011, he earned a career-best 83.0 pass-rush grade this season. In Joseph’s final three seasons in Minnesota, the team graded out at 91.5, 87.0, and 75.4 against the run. Without him, the defense has dropped to 41.5 and 50.3. Despite the down year, Joseph is a space-eater who may still garner some interest at 34 years old. However, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he hangs up his cleats after a great career.

Projected contract: One year, $6.75 million fully guaranteed

                        7. SEBASTIAN JOSEPH-DAY
                        2021 Snaps: 340
                        2021 PFF grade: 61.6 (54th of 125)

The Rams run defense took a big hit for a few weeks following Joseph-Day’s torn pectoral muscle in Week 7, but reports have indicated he may return for the playoffs. His ability to eat up space on the interior and free up other rushers will definitely be valued across the league.

Projected contract: Three years, $24 million ($8M per year), $15.5 million total guaranteed
                        4. MORGAN MOSES
                        2021 Snaps: 1,022
                        2021 PFF grade: 71.0 (40th of 83)

Moses’ release from the Washington Football Team this past offseason was one of the more surprising moves around the league. To Washington’s credit, second-round rookie right tackle Sam Cosmi has had a great debut season when healthy. Moses ended up with the New York Jets on a one-year, $3.6 million deal and has turned in another solid season of grading above 65.0 as both a run-blocker and pass-blocker while rarely missing a snap. A stronger market should land Moses another multi-year deal for a good bit more than $3.6 million per year.

                        Projected contract: 3 yrs — $7.5m avg/yr
                        3. MIKE WILLIAMS
                        2021 Snaps: 895
                        2021 PFF grade: 77.6 (23rd of 118)

Williams picked a great season to break out and become a consistent player week in and week out, topping his previous season-high for receptions by Week 12. After a blazing start the first three weeks of the campaign, during which Williams ranked fifth in receptions (22), sixth in receiving yards (295) and tied for second in explosive plays (8), he slowed down a bit. Yet, he still finished with a fourth straight 70.0-plus season grade and a career-best 76 receptions for 1,146 yards (15.1 yards per reception, fourth straight season averaging over 15 yards per reception). Williams is a big play waiting to happen with rare physical tools.

                        Projected contract: 4 yrs — $17m avg/yr

                        8. JUJU SMITH-SCHUSTER
                        2021 Snaps: 274
                        2021 PFF grade: 58.0 (N/A)

Smith-Schuster reportedly turned down offers from the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs in order to stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected him in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Smith-Schuster was once believed to be supplanting Antonio Brown as the best wide receiver in Pittsburgh, but even with Brown no longer in town, that still isn’t the case. However, Smith-Schuster plays a very valuable role as a sure-handed slot receiver who a quarterback can rely on in critical situations. He ranks in the top 15 in third-down receptions (85) among wide receivers since he was drafted in 2017. That said, he will once again likely be facing one-year flier offers after missing much of the 2021 season to injury.

                        Projected contract: 1 yrs — $8m avg/yr
                        1. CORDARRELLE PATTERSON
                        2021 Snaps: 472
                        2021 PFF grade: 82.2 (5th of 62)

Patterson attempted to set an NFL record for most positions listed on the depth chart, as he was the Atlanta Falcons’ RB2 (though he became the RB1 in reality), kick returner and fifth-string safety. Patterson enjoyed an incredible breakout year as an offensive weapon, with his 2.23 yards per route run ranking second among running backs. He may not be able to cash in on a huge deal now past 30 years old, but he deserves a healthy raise over his $3 million deal signed this past season.

                        Projected contract: 2 yrs — $6m avg/yr

                        9. JUSTIN JACKSON
                        2021 Snaps: 230
                        2021 PFF grade: 63.1 (N/A)

Jackson is a capable backup who excels as a rushing and receiving option out of the backfield. However, 2021 was his lowest-graded season in both areas by a good margin.

                        Projected contract: N/A

                          Mike Williams, WR, Chargers
                          Franchise tag tender: $19.1 million

The Chargers have some young wide receivers who can help replace Williaams as the complementary downfield and red zone threat to Keenan Allen, led by Joshua Palmer and Jalen Guyton. But they also have more than $55 million in salary-cap space and want to keep QB Justin Herbert locked and loaded with one of his familiar favorite targets while on his rookie deal.

Williams may not get the long-term deal, but it's a no-brainer to make him a one-year re-signing priority with Herbert most in mind for GM Tom Telesco.

                          J.C. Jackson, CB, Patriots
                          Franchise tag tender: $17.3 million

Jackson is a playmaking star who has turned into a pretty good shutdown cover corner, too. He's in his prime, rewarded with second-team All-Pro honors for his superb 2021 season when he led the league with 23 passes defended. Jackson has 17 combined interceptions the past two seasons.

That said, the Patriots will be reluctant to lock him long-term when it's not required to keep his services while he still gets a substantial raise from the $3.38 million he just made. After trading Stephon Gilmore, Bill Belichick should have every intention of not letting Jackson walk. Jackson will need to accept playing on the tag with the potential of testing his worth on the open market in 2023.

                          Cordarrelle Patterson, RB/WR, Falcons
                          Franchise tag tender: $12.5 million

The Falcons, after getting a big year from Patterson in his new hybrid but mostly rushing role, have a positional hack to keep him around as the feature back in Arthur Smith's offense for his age 31 season. Atlanta is around $7 million over the cap, so team officials would need to maneuver some to make it work with the tag. Given Patterson's importance after QB Matt Ryan, however, he may be worth the pricey one-year retention knowing he offers multiple-position savvy.

                          Mike Gesicki, TE, Dolphins
                          Franchise tag tender: $12.5 million

New offensive-minded head coach Mike McDaniel should recognize that Gesicki has been a key trusted target for Tua Tagovailoa as more of a hybrid big slot receiver. McDaniel also saw how impactful George Kittle's receiving was in San Francisco playing off Deebo Samuel and second-year wideout Jaylen Waddle can be a Samuel-like cog.

No team has more cap space than the Dolphins at more than $60 million available. A little more than 20 percent of that to bring back Gesicki for at least one more season doesn't seem like a lot. Gesicki is only 26 and has improved his pass-catching production in every season.

                          Haason Reddick, EDGE, Panthers
                          Franchise tag tender: $17.4 million

The Panthers are about $12 million under the cap so they're also in good shape to keep a key player via short-term means. Reddick is a favorite of coach Matt Rhule going back to Temple. Reddick followed his breakout 12.5 sack 2020 season as a dedicated pass-rusher in Arizona with 11 more sacks during his first season in Carolina, while also showing more durability and punch against the run. Should he hit the open market, there's a good chance the Panthers lose him.
