he was only a few years older than I but quickly established himself to us neighborhood kids as a safe, positive male role model.
he had his own issues for sure, it was a gang area, but we would often go to his house as a safe refuge.
always good to me and my cousins.
Calling him a friend, I suppose infers he was an equal, he wasn't, he was a man among us boys.
Protector and always saw the good in us kids even when we didn't see it ourselves.
very loyal too, moved to Texas for a few years and made a special trip back here to be here for my friend when he was in legal trouble.
big on family and the word I'm really looking for is, "reliable"
