4th ranked offense in 2021 in the league and every week casual football fans excoriate Lombardi. Yawn.
This team has put up a lot of impressive stats on offense over the years. But for all these good stuff, they just don't matter. There were times when the offense didn't deliver when they needed to. Like that Texans game last year, or the other games last year when they lost.

        Horse's mouth.

        At the risk of hypocrisy
Can we please stop criticizing each other for having criticisms?
Lombo himself is owning some criticism, and as a fan I greatly appreciate that level of professionalism, vs hiding behind a win.
TPB can enjoy a win AND talk about what didn't go well.

Yep, I did. O still needs work, but we were ahead so different game plan presumably.

              This!

And as I posted several times in the GDT, Herbert checked to a few of those unsuccessful runs.

Well said. But if we’re going to talk about what didn’t go well let’s talk about the sub-par run blocking against a bad middle of the Raiders D, bad decision making by the RBs such as Ekeler trying to bounce it outside from his own end zone and nearly getting a safety, and the continuation of bad drops from pass catchers. Lombardi could have called a more aggressive game absolutely, but there also could have been a lot better execution from a lot of the offensive players.

Agree, but Staley did say his team needs to get tougher so that once we have a lead, we can impose our will and run the ball down the opponents throat, to run out clock leading to a TD and putting the final nail in coffin.....

even if not successful, we still have to run sometimes, just to keep defense honest.....

one thing that does kill me though is when we (too frequently)have first and goal from say the 9, where the likelihood of running the ball in is extremely low, we throw 3 dump off passes well short of the endzone, expecting a player to break tackles or juke someone to get in..... but usually our guys get tackled where they catch it....

if we want to do that, we need more receivers running patterns deep in endzone to draw defenders away from those dump off balls.....

this also happens too often on first downs where receivers cut route too short.... or right on marker allowing a bad/questionable ref spot to end our drive....(part of the reason we had to attempt so many 4th downs last year)... Staley also runs ball on 3rd and short fully knowing he is going to go for it on 4th down.......

This team is clearly better than it has been in many years, we just need to keep improving on some of these little details.....

Coach is right..... if we become a better running team, it will really open up the deep passes..... and we will be unstoppable....

Lombardi. Credit where credit is due would be nice, to balance out the endless criticism.

That's all on Herbert and not Lombo's play calling. We needed 4 downs with our superstar QB to get those stats Lombo is piggy backing on. Let's just call it what were all thinking..."It's preseason for the offensive line!" The real test is thursday....
Chiefs won the Superbowl with 10 Rookies....

We had a 14 point lead in the second half, and they began to run more, trying yo use up clock. If they had come out passing and had some 3 and outs or worse yet, a pick, the same guys that are so critical over the play calling would have said 'they should be running with this lead'.

It's not about the play calling as much as it is about execution. Several of you people will complain about something or other no matter how the game is going. Some people are only happy when they can criticize - it's their nature. Maybe we need a thread devoted to those who want to criticise.
