Derwin's hit was BRUTAL. And perfectly legal, as far as I could tell. His helmet made contact with the opponent's shoulder, and then slid to the guy's chin.

I wouldn't be getting up for a week after taking that hit.

The retired ref said that the league monitor in NY would call any leading of the head, and contact by the crown of the helmet on a defenseless receiver an ejection, even if it glanced off the shoulder. I think it was too quick for Derwin to avoid it, but the optics were bad enough to make an example of it. I don't think he'll get a suspension, but it will be a hefty fine. It caused a concussion... not good.

The Colt player could have gotten a concussion on the whiplash alone, not even taking into consideration the hit. It was a stunning hit.

We were speculating that the long passes were scrapped earlier in the season mainly because of Herberts ribs which I was adamant about benching him instead of playing him hurt. But Herbert isn’t hurt anymore so that excuse of not having the long pass play because he’s hurt is a joke.

I think teams are moving away from the longball. It has more to do with defenses playing more split high safeties. See DJ's interception. See ASJ's interception.
Herbie's ribs limited the Chargers ability to roll him out of the pocket. Jalen Hurts and Tua are now hurt. Their teams won't be rolling them out as much now.
