    Tell ya what, dmac.
This is gonna be a tough nut to crack.
I expect the NFL to cycle back to power running.
How exactly do we fix the running game, especially on early downs ?
We do not play modern football.

We spent a lot last year and now have to deal with the ramifications.

Two years ago - the Pats spent like crazy in free agency. They did make the playoffs last year - but got blown out by the Bills (hey the Bills just scored again in that game). The Pats didn't make the playoffs this year.

Free agency can be used to augment your roster - look at the Jags. But it also could mean you as a team have failed on draft day. So you have to use free agency to fill in your roster. Nwosu was replaced by Mack; Austin Johnson and SJD replaced Justin Jones; Kyzir White - well JC Jackson. Point is - you make better draft picks - you don't need free agency. Or you just go cheaper in free agency

The Colts this year - normally a team that waits for phase 2 of free agency. And analysts say "Ballard is a genius for getting bargains." Well those bargains went 4-12-1. The Colts may not have cap issues but there team was also not good

So whether its the draft, free agency, yoru UDFAs - there has to be good work in talent evaluation for the coaching staff.

I think it's as simple as hitting the rookie wall.

I’m not going to claim I’m a oline guru, but you guys have made it interesting to learn. I’m only keeping Pipkins if there isn’t a better RT in this draft. Yes, he has turned the corner, but just over a year ago, we all saw him as trash. Invest in a top grade RT or G early to replace him.
As much as anyone, I want a speed WR. But if I can get a T, G, or C in the first two rounds, I’m good with that. Getting great line play will give Herbert every chance to shine. Let’s not make the mistake of wasting that.

What ramifications? Perhaps (not counting pipkins) they’re not going to active in big pre-draft FA spending if at all, they’ll still look for value post draft signings like they did last year, but they don’t need too, IMO there are fewer holes on this roster than in years past…

On offense the offensive line is almost complete, they need to upgrade the depth thru the draft but if they resign pipkins the starting five is solid, maybe even top ten in the NFL…the TE and WR groups should both get an infusion thru the draft…I think we are set at RB for 2023 and we’ll finally get to see spiller in a bigger role…backup QB will need to get sorted out too but I’d prefer a veteran with playing experience and instead of carrying three on the 53 I hope they keep the emergency guy on the PS…

On defense the deffensive line is almost complete, they should draft an edge player early and another interior guy depending on what they decide they need either interior pass rush specialist or that true run stuffing NT we’ve been missing since joseph left…linebacker will need reinforcements especially if they plan to let tranquill walk…I know staley will probably draft another corner but the secondary is close to complete IMO starters and depth is good and that’s even with callahan AND nasir leaving…I don’t know how they justify spending on secondary in days 1 & 2 in this upcoming draft, not when depth is needed in other areas of the roster…

on specials teams I hope they consider cutting hopkins and keeping dicker…I also hope they look at drafting a kick return specialist in the later rounds, don’t forget that jasir taylor returned a couple of punts in college, maybe with a year under his belt and already experienced on the defense, maybe, just maybe, they expand taylor’s role to help carter out on kickoffs, carter is a solid PR but but his numbers on KRs was on the lower end for the NFL last season…

couple of restructures here and maybe one or two extension there and this team will be way under the cap, and nothing that will get us into NO saints type trouble either…people keep exaggerating the cap thing, it’s a bunch of baloney…I’ll be surprised if anyone gets traded and they’re not going to cut keenan allen, not even the spanos are THAT stupid…

For this Offensive staff I want

                  Brian Johnson as OC
                  Alex Tanney as QB Coach
                  Roy Istvan as Oline Coach
Michael Pitre as RB Coach/Run Game Coordinator

The first 3 are all from the Eagles staff. The moves would all be upgrades for them. This Offense of the Eagles is explosive and has a phenomenal running game. While Jalen Hurts runs a lot in this offense. I think if the Chargers could get an extra 30-40 yards on the ground from Herbert a game on designed runs, it would help out a lot. We all know he has the wheels to do it. I really think Brian Johnson should be at the top of the list, especially with the development he has done with Hurts as a passer. Unless he interviews horribly, Johnson is a no brainer.

I don’t want these QB coaches that have had veteran QBs as their QBs. I want a guy that has helped develop a QB that not a lot of people had faith in and now part of a very explosive offense. Zac Robinson and Jerrod Johnson have not developed Stafford or Cousins. Brian Johnson has been a huge part of Hurts development as a passer.

Knowing this organization and what only Staley’s tunnel vision sees. I would be surprised if he even gets an interview.

I keep reading that people think our OL is all set to go. Do you guys know that some teams block well enough that the RB's don't get hit until they are already 4 yards to the good? Our RB's often get hit four yards behind the los. That needs to be corrected. If we could have mounted a running attack in the second half of last week's game we could have won going away. Instead, we couldn't average 2 ypc and the Jags had all the time they needed to come from behind as they did.
                      THE YEAR OF THE FLIP!

I’m all for continued investment in the trenches, but this year we need to take a speed WR in the first 3 rounds for sure…also and edge in the first 3 rounds makes sense to me, that leaves one of the top 3 picks for offensive line depth center of the future C/G depth, but if they resign pipkins I see no need to draft tackle until day 3 depth to compete with sarrell for OT #4

                          resign Pips
+ WR & TE in draft
all eggs in the Kelley/Spiller basket, as not so worried 'bout an Ek injury
                          sign backup QB in FA
+ ED & IDL (pass rusher or run stuffer) in draft
                          + LB in draft
                          + CB in draft
                          + KR in draft

not sure Pips is gonna be affordable.... personally would spend $6m there.... are you willing to go to $10m (or is that yet another overpaid Telesco biased signing similar to MW ?)

also not sure how you are so confident in Spiller.... what is it that you've seen that makes you comfortable w/him, not to mention that Kelley was unavailabe for a bit last season, and Ek has gone down for extended stretches in the past....

and know you've mentioned IOL in other posts, but no swing tackle, OG or Linsley replacement ??

and how do you pass on both NT and RB when they just don't fall to your slotting so very often ??

and are you willing to spend for a Gardner Minshew or Jarrett Stidham, or do you have another FA QB in mind ??

and you're one of the only ones here who mentions not resigning Tranq.... agreed.

and CB depth without Callahan ?? who hasn't got injured or benched out of our starting 3 ?? and Ja'Sir/Deane Leonard.... ??

and jftr, personally think we need NT over pass rushing specialist inside, given we resign Fox.

and even if we don't go RB early, think this draft has too much talent @RB not to come away with one.
