So either the players or the scheme or both are still lousy. This year we haven't done a thing to fix it. If they use the #1 pick on a DL it may not get any better right away either.

So looks like we are heading into 2023 doing the same thing again and expecting a different result.
I’ll throw a third element into the mix here, yes Staley’s scheme is definitely part the issue, yes some of our guys like K9, tillery, and some secondary guys have been slow to either understand or accept their roles against the run…but my third element is that I’ve come to question Staley’s personnel decisions with weekly roster management as well, going into games with only 5 IDL, then only dressing 4-5 even when he had 6 on the roster, his IDL rotation decisions have been questionable in my book…runs a bend don’t break scheme then shorthands the guys in the interior forcing them to play excessive amounts of snaps, while having extra DBs dress that don’t get used much…

IMO, one of the areas Staley has shown his inexperience the most is how he puts the roster together week to week, AND he’s not shown a willingness to grow and learn in this area…almost like in denial that certain players are no longer on the board and failing to anticipate how the remaining will be affected (tired out) by being stretched so thin, which also exposes them to more injuries…

With the K9 contract up at the end of the season, we should be looking for an off-ball LB that can cover RB's and TE's well. If we find a guy that can blitz on occasion... we will have addressed our needs.

      DeMarvion Overshown (3rd round)
      Owen Pappoe (4th round)
      Dee Winters (5th round)
IMO, neither white nor tranquil were good run defenders, this team really missed perriman against the run but he wasn’t good in coveage, LOL yes, LB has been a weakspot on this defense, but I don’t think this draft offers much in the way of a solution unless they uncover some kind of hidden gem…I wouldn’t draft any LBs early in this draft….a lot of these converted safety types are going to struggle against the run…teams are only paying guys that excel in BOTH areas…

It baffles me that so-called experts know so little about the Chargers' actual issues. I don't have have a Twitter account... largely because I can get better informed takes here @TBP.
I think I read somewhere that they’re not going to pick up K9’s option…

I’d like to see them bring in P competition to TC and would be surprised if they don’t. Just because he’s not the complete clusterfuck that Long was doesnt mean they need to stand pat without trying to further improve on #17 or #18 or whatever they were.

Where is PuntGod - he was cleared (criminally) … I’ve never seen the evidence but it sounded to me that perhaps the alleged victim didnt have a compelling case against him. Allegedly the DA’s office was able to see a tape that destroyed her claim against him but that could be his PR machine, i don’t know. He changed so many games at SDSU he was MVP one year. He’s a great emergency PK too, he did all the PK at SDSU, not a great average but 1000x better than anyone else on the roster if Dicker got hurt.
Scott got 4mil over 2 years, I’m thinking they aren’t even looking at anyone else with the money they’re paying him…also the STs coach that fixed STs for us loves the guy…

Charbonet is a beast, he’s a punishing runner that gets stronger and stronger as the game progresses…he can also catch the shit outta the ball…

There really arent any vet QBs remaining id care for , unless you like Bridgewater or Rudolph, or Gabbert.

Dont want Wentz as he will cost a bit and NO to Matt Ryan....who also may cost a bit. If they didnt want to pay Rush, they wont pay Ryan or Wentz.
Who would you go for day three? I don’t know if they’ll make it to late day three but I think haener and bennett have back up QB potential…

Haener would be an upgrade over Stick...and since Jake played at Fresno State, he'd probably like to stay in Cali...

I am still hoping the Texans want to take a flier on the hometown kid for a future 7th round pick

I don't think so either. The one true run stopper is Campbell... and 2nd round is too much capital for me. I think Telesco sees it this way too. That's why he got Kendricks in FA... he's better vs the run and is pretty good in coverage.

The draft is loaded with off-ball LB's. IMO, 3rd-5th rounds are the sweet spot.
With college offenses constructed such as they are (more spread) the college defenses are constructed to stop them.
You'll find lots of LB's in college that started their careers as safeties.

Daiyan Henly and DeMarvion Overshown are 2 of my favorite LB's in the draft... both played safety before settling at LB. Henley actually played a little of everything.
Both read and react very well. I think this was what Tranquill lacked.
Are they going to shed OG's...? No. But in Staley's scheme, the DL are supposed to engage OG's long enough for LB's to beat them to a spot (assignments/gaps). The LB's weren't reading/reacting and playing assignments quickly enough... that's why Tranquill is gone... that's why the LB coach is gone. If you don't fit/play Staley's scheme well... you're gone.
Staley was handed a bunch of Gusly defenders. Last off-season, we saw personnel changes. This off-season, we'll see some more.
                          It's almost there.
                          Protect the QB
                          Run the ball
                          Play great defense
