I think the chargers are going to see what comes around draft time and fill in the blanks after thatOriginally posted by CivilBolt View Post
Oh wow, the Turds continue with their MO of signing ex- Bolts player. That’s a big loss for sure.
don't disagree at all with it
don't want to sign somebody and have the right talent fall in your lap and kind of duplicate - need those veteran roster signings to fill in gaps

I would agree about the base rosterOriginally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post
Of course, but my point is that they probably won’t be able to fill all the ‘depth holes’ with this draft…the chiefs went thru this in the last couple of years and they won a superbowl, it can be done but we need to draft smart…not the sexy stuff and no fucking trade ups for fuck’s sake, this team needs every pick it has…
bottom line is that the chargers are at the least “roster wise” in one of the best positions we’ve seen in over a decade so let’s not forget that fact when we talk about all these things, this team is set up to be a force for the next 5-6 seasons if they play their cards right…
except for that playmaker on offense - with some juice and sizzle to make plays - they don't have that now
but the rest - I agree - they have enough to start the season
fill in with the draft and a few more cheap veterans

TT also had a "first round" grade on Tillery...oops...Originally posted by Xenos View Post

4. The Chargers have the 21st pick in the first round. When asked about the possibility of trading back to accrue additional picks, Telesco said the Chargers typically have first-round grades on 16 to 19 players.
Certainly when youre in that late first, theres probably a little bit more of a thought, Telesco added of trading back from 21. Essentially at that point youre taking a player that at least you have graded as a second-round player. Thats all really subjective. But if you can trade back a little bit and pick up a pick and still get maybe even the same player or close to the same player, then its a pretty good deal to do.

Apparently, Carter was asking for too much...sorry to see him go, but our cap situation is such that we will need to find a decent returner and 4th-5th wideout in the late rounds or UDFA...ideally, find a dual threat returner-wideout in early to mid rounds...Originally posted by CivilBolt View Post

I’m not surprised. He was one of bright spot of our big FA signing last year. Let’s just hope Jimmy G won’t find him as much. I agree we can’t have too many WRs.Originally posted by Topcat View Post

Carter had a good year for the Chargers but for sure - the price points were probably different. And like you said, a veteran will be out there like Carter was last year - or possibly they draft the playerOriginally posted by Topcat View Post

Carter was good for the first half of last season but for me I think he disappeared in the second half. I don't know the reasons why only the Charger staff does.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post

I personally am okay with a bit of turnover actually. The team needs to improve. I get the 10-7 record -- with all the injuriesOriginally posted by gzubeck View Post

I also saw a pretty stagnant offense and underwhelming defense and some wins were by the narrowest of margins
So for me, good to have a bit or turnover even if the middle to back end of the roster

Carter was never supposed to be a major part of the passing game. He was/is primarily a kick returner who would be a complimentary piece in the passing game. But he ended up playing a big role as a WR due to injuries to KA/MW. I think early in the season he caught defenses off-guard, Herbert threw the ball to him much more than they were expecting. Then he became the No. 2 WR when both KA/MW were out with injuries. Then when KA/MW returned Carter's targets diminished, that and defenses were more aware of him late in the season and defensed him more. That's why his production dropped off later in the year.Originally posted by gzubeck View Post

Carter had his best year ever as a WR with us due to injuries ahead of him. Nice that he responded but he's primarily STs.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post
