Yup. We are going to depend on young players very soon for a while so we really need to balance carefully and provide reps for Taylor and Leonard.

Callahan played way too much last year and there should be plenty of opportunities to play the young players (certainly before the regular season) just so you preserve Callahan.

There'd be less hand-wringing, if the Bolts had a more impressive record of hitting on their Day 3 draft picks. We could breathe easier, if that were the case.

As it is, we have no such reassurances, and yet the 2023 edition of the Chargers will apparently have to rely on some recent Day 3 draft picks-- Deane Leonard, Ja'Sir Taylor, and Mark Webb-- stepping up. That *is* a bit unsettling.

You're making assumptions ahead of the facts. Staley will make the cuts Aug 29. Whether or not he requests a FA signing TBD. Evaluations take place in the month of August. JCJ on IR would raise the odds that we sign a vet FA.
Current CB projections that I've seen are (6) JCJ, Davis, 'Sante, Taylor , Leonard, Hall. There will be 10 in TC. Let's see what they look like before dumping on them.
ps: I like Davis and Taylor, don't know much about Mullen.

JaSir may have had 6 picks his senior year, but until he shows he can tackle on a consistent basis, I'm not holding my breath on him either...

More impressive than what? Salyer? Otito looked solid. Taylor and Leonard were ST stars. Ja'Sir had 16 tackles and a PD in the last 5 games at CB.
Webb has struggled with injuries. Vato was a UDFA and is a top starter.

Ja averaged 3.3 tackles per game at CB. Not sure how many snaps that was.
