Keep Stone Smart or Dotson . . . . . . . . . . . that would seem like a no-brainer. We can pick up a 4th TE on the street any time, and Smart will almost certainly clear waivers and be placed on the PS anyway. He could even be protected there if the team so chooses.
I don't think Dotson clears waivers . . . . . . . . . . . . but I've been wrong (just a few times mind you) before !
Previously, IPP players were forced to remain on their respective team's practice squad but the club would get a roster exemption for that season. Under the new rules, the 14 players currently in the program can agree to terminate their IPP contract and sign a Practice Player Contract (to join the team's practice squad), but there's an asterisk that requires them to remain on the practice squad for a minimum of three consecutive games before they can be activated to any roster.
So, I would keep Okoye on the PS for 3 weeks, then elevate him so he can't be poached...does that sound about right?

A team that claimed him on waivers would have to put him on their 53-man roster, and he's far too raw for that. Assuming he clears waivers, I assume he's a free agent like any other waived player, and could sign with another team, but I can't imagine why he would do that, and other teams wouldn't have the extra practice squad spot for a player from the International Player Program.

Agree, TC needs to learn the PS rules. It isn't practical to be poaching players unless they have a big need...especially early since they need to keep them on their 53. PS players don't get plucked very ofen during a season.
If I'm Arizona and generally tanking the season away, I'd gladly add CJ Okoye to my 53 and develop him there because his upside is grand and his development would align with the rebuild.
just saying.
I wonder what the plan is for Crowder. Been here a week. Is he actually replacing someone? Could he be signed just for the PS? Puzzler. He did play Friday.
