So is TT's plan, keep giving the ball back to Rivers and hopefully eventually they put up some points? With Wiz back and TB signed, maybe we get our quick hitting O back, that'd be nice.

Call our OLB OLB if you want, but the assignment for our OLB in the 24 alignment is exactly the same as a DE in a 4 man front (425). If they look like a duck and quack like a duck, their are ducks. Don't get hung up on the labeles that sportwriters and fans put on players, because coaches and players deal with assignments.

I would hardly call Mebane a big ugly. He is about 6' tall (probably a little less, even though he is listed as 6'1") and is listed at about 310lbs, which is about the same as most DL in the 34. Most people who call for a 34 NT want someone who is huge, but Mebane is pretty short, and definitely no heavier then average, so he is actually more on the small side. He was never an every down player in Seattle, so I would expect that to continue. Run down DT who excels at playing his assignment and plays with great leverage. But he is not overly explosive or powerful. Just gets in gaps and doesn't give up.

He should be a good signing, but at his age, he is only a part time player. NT is only a part time position in our D, the nickle DB is the real starter(70% of the snaps in the nickle and dime), they just don't get introduced at the beginning of games.

And that settles it. Linebackers are playing defensive end in our defense. So let's move onto the next question. Why are linebackers playing defensive end?

Because the 34 D is really the old 52 D, and back then OLB were called DE. Players and coaches only worry about assignments/techniques the players have/use. Amateur fans and professional sportswriters (one step below fans in understanding) are the ones who get hung up on semantics like what positions are called.

The better term would be to call them edge rushers and then we could skip all this nonsense about what the position is called.

I'd call them edge rushers if they did much edge rushing.

Let's call them guys who have a hard time getting to the quarterback. That's the GWHAHTGTTQB. We have seven starters at that position.

I vote we call them dangling participles when they can't sack the QB!

Then don't call him a Nose Tackle. He's not going to plug any holes nor provide any "girth" to protect the MLBs. tl;dr - the middle is still soft.
                      Prediction:
                      Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

Mebane is a 2 gapping 1T in a 43 Under/Over. Whether he lines up at 0T in a 34 or a 1T in a 43 hes still capable of being responsible for the "A" gaps. I dont get the confusion. Hes a true A gap DT. Something we need. Something he excels at.

And saying his job is to protect the LBs makes no sense for to me. Because if you're talking about his role in our 34 1 Gap his job is to shoot one gap(A) and rely on the LBs to shoot the other.

We dont use a 2 gap NT. But Mebane was a 2 gap player in Seattle so he can handle it if we ever were to play that scheme.

                        Im excited about the signing.

It's a good signing that could be made great with the right draft pick in the first two rounds. I like it.
