Chargers have much easier ways to find cap space than the Saints do for instance, maybe even the Bills and Miami.
Yes, Chargers have salary cap issues but they also don't have any major FAs they have to sign. There are guys like Ekeler, Everett, Davis that we don't need to have back and there are guys like Bosa, Mack, Williams that the team can move on from.

Teams like the Chiefs have Chris Jones and Snead to worry about. Miami has Wilkinson, Tua and some others they have to worry about. We just need to trim some players and two of them we are pretty used to not playing with anyway.
Like, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.

And it could be the chiefs move on from Snead in a sign and trade.

I beg to Differ...Mack we can use for another year and just let him go after the season for a comp pick.
Chiefs won the Superbowl with 10 Rookies....

They can do this only if he agrees to voidable years in his contract or they do not adjust his contract. If they extend him, there will not be a comp pick

So if you are thinking of wanting a comp pick for Mack - you trade him this year - value will only go down

He's an unrestricted free agent after this season. You might not get a comp pick for a couple seasons but how are you gonna replace him with a mediocre pick for this year? Maybe someone is sitting on a second rounder they just wanna get rid of it's not very attractive to us or our defense. Basically...who cares? It's already down due to age anyways. So unless you've traded for two thirds this is meaningless statement.

He is only unrestricted if they don't extend his contract. So if you keep the contract as is - -you probably are limited in other ways from a cap perspective.

And again, its just not the draft pick you get if you trade Mack - you also get the cap space allocated towards him to add players to the roster. There is no rule in some book about roster building that if you trade a player at X position you have to use that EXACT draft position or cap dollars on the same position.

Bosa and the two receivers firs before Mack. That would free up $57 mil right there not including others we've already discussed. Forget about the lost bonuses as that's money already spent. I'm in the keep mack camp even for one more season.

So you would keep Mack over Allen - if push came to shove. Already agree about Bosa (he has to go - injuries, don't think he is worth it) and MW (cap) -byou want Mack over Allen

Keenan isn't going anywhere. I'm sure Herbert asked them to find a way to keep him. And we can and he should be here.

no, there actually is a rule that you have to do that

thats not correct - if we let this year play out, he's a FA next year. if he signs somewhere else, that can be eligible for a comp pick (based on contract etc ...?)

comp pick awards can be baffling - they seem to me to be somewhere between an unpredictable ouija board emanation and a rigged League Office scam to favor their buddies who hold tapes on them.

Trading Mack away is the ultimate quitting move for 2024, regardless how you spin it.
Mack and Allen stay for 2024.
