JSN had Darnard throwing to him last season and Geno the three prior to that. Why are you giving Herbert all the credit for QJ? He still has to get open and Herbert has to have time to throw.

When has Herbert ever had steady time to throw? When he has average protection, Herbert is a top 5 QB!

We have done nothing at OT for depth. What if Alt or Slater goes down again, like before? Pipkins comes right back in again and its just a matter of time before he goes down again, and we're signing people off the streets just like last season? Something is off with Hortiz's thinking, and I don't know why Harbaugh isn't whispering in his ear that we need to be more active with the Oline?

One of the most frustrating things ever was watching us play the better playoff teams last season and when we were on Offense, Herbert was running for his life, and when the other team had the ball, their QB would drop back and have time in the pocket on several plays. Are we in for another season of this!

Looks like we have to use premium picks on an OG and OT in this draft at this point.

You bring up good points electricgold about depth at OT - which is just another reason why I think Hortiz needs more picks. Now, the situation might not present itself, the right trade might not happen, the talent on the board when picking is too good to pass up. That said - -this team, between starters or contributors needs

          OG
          OC
          OT
          CB
          Edge
          IDL
          LB
          S

They can't them all but getting 6 or those in this draft would be nice. They have 5 picks. -- need one or two more

You missed my point lol. Our OL was awful after week 4 last season and QJ had a decent year but missed 3 games. Ladds stats suffered as well. Keenan had decent stats but his YPC was a career low due to the OL issues and having to throw him short passes for first downs with at times 1.74 seconds to throw. He had time to throw vs bad defenses like the Bengals, and Cowboys.

Hoetiz/MM thinking will come into play soon enough. Many of us just dont understand it and are used to our OLs having power blockers. That isnt what we are now with MM and im also curious what we will do. I know we will do more. I did NOT like bringing back Pipkins so i hope we get a better OT later.

At the very least I think Hortiz had to look at our oline and say to himself this offseason, what if we're in a game and Alt goes down, or Slater doesn't make it through a season? What Olineman can I sign that fits McDaniel's system who could come in and assume the starting role? The Same at OG? It seems like he's gone in to this thing assuming Alt and Slater will play everygame and be standing when the playoffs start?

He needed to look at the OG position the same way, but instead he signed Strange, Penning and Detroits backup OG seemingly for 2 of these three to be the starters?

I hope the draft works out for us with the Oline and I hope Hortiz doesn't draft an OG in the last round again, and or an OT! At this point I wouldn't put it past him. Fingers crossed we are not done yet with the Oline.

I don't give ALL the credit to Herbie for QJ's success...but don't u think Justin deserves at least quite a bit of the credit? Imagine if QJ was on certain other teams with a low-rated qb...

You believe Hortiz has no idea that backup OL may be needed? What ever.
Currently Slater- Strange - Biadasz- Kayode- Alt
Backup OT- Pipkins, Sarrell, OG/T Penning
PS- OG Taylor, OG Cleveland, C Kaltenberger

It's a lock that there will be some adds/ changes to OL by the time season practice starts. I expect 1 or 2 from draft, other FAs.
We have 8 on the roster. 8-9 is normal in season. We'll add some and whittle it back down.

You think Kayode was signed at 1.8 to start?

I will take Penning over that. Not saying much I know but that is where the Chargers are pre-draft.

Darned if I KNOW. I believe he was signed to compete for a roster spot in camp. What's 1.8?
I like his story. Reliable depth on a very competitive team.
I'm looking forward to what McDaniel, Gase, Barry, etc can do in shaping and training this OL I'm hoping for Team results more than individual.
Nothing against Penning. Bring it son!

Yep...I think Cleveland and Kaltenburger are on the bubble and can be upgraded...Coyote has been a backup most of his career, so ideally we draft a plug-and-play G in round 1-2...

That's what I'm hoping for and expect.
There's a good number of OG candidates if we include some OTs that may start inside- and provide OT depth at the same time.
