I didn't excuse him for fumbling, only pointed out a contributing factor. I won't blame Gates for his fumble either since he was trying to make a play of was completely off balance and holding the ball out there for anyone to knock it free.

Dunlap did make a nice block later on Royal's 3rd TD.

We might as well give Rivers a pass for all his INTs that were due to WRs running bad routes. Or OL allowing him to get pressured and rush the pass. I see RBs get hit from behind all the time and fumble the ball and its there fault nobody else. Who cares if someone misses a block that leads to a RB fumbling the ball. I think it's clear Dunlap is a less than stellar run blocker, that's exactly the type of plays he will allow on occasion. We have to take the good with the bad at this point since we have no other choice. In that regard, Matthews needs to wrap up better ESPECIALLY in the Red Zone. It was inexcusable in that situation. It was a contributing factor though, I saw it as well.
