It won't work. You can work with a special needs person all you want, but at the end of the day they're still special needs. I've givin up hope that Muffews can be fixed and I agree with you that he is not part of the long term solution here in SD.

Actually did see Mathews pick up the blitz on an occasion or two yesterday...that part of his game seems improved.

He has run the ball well.

That fumble... I swear I saw it coming...saw that DE coming from behind, and I was like...uh-oh.

Ryan needs to do a better job taking care of the football. Period.

I'm not done with him. He can still be a valuable player in this offense.

Not cool, Mr. H. I wish you had deleted this post. My wife is a teacher; she has to work with some "retards" now and then. Let's try and be a bit more sensitive, hard as that is on a football board, I realize.

It seems he has had his turn of being put on the bench due to his fumbles before yet he does not learn from it. I think putting him right back on the hoarse is the best medicine. Let him feel the peir presure from his team mates let him play up for them maybe that will motivate him more than treating him like a radio active inanamet carbon rod...

Only issue with that is that before the fumble, he was averaging 6 yards per carry. After the fumble, 2.4.

Mathews agrees, not his fault:

Mathews said he looked at pictures of the play on the sideline and concluded the fumble was as a result of good play by the defense.

Mathews was, in fact, holding the ball away from his body as he was spun around when Trent Cole hit him. It was similar to the way he was holding the ball when it was dislodged on a goal line run in the preseason and all too familiar a sight.

That could be termed denial.

But it is also, perhaps, how Mathews has to perceive himself.

“You’ve got to look past it,” he said. “Something is going to happen in the game you don’t like. You’ve got to play forward from there. That’s the big thing I’m trying to do this year is let go of the last play.”
