The big difference is signing your own guys vs signing someone new. I don't think signing Reinhart hurts us at all. He didn't get a ton of money. He is still basically playing for his next contract. We know him, and he is the type of player the team wants. Good team guy. Good role model. Fits our scheme.
But look at it historically. Since FA kicked off, how many teams have gone out and been able to buy a championship. The Cowboys and 49ers each had some success the 1st few years, but that was really it. And those were powerful, established teams, who basically spent to keep most of their own players, and then add a couple of key pieces.
But it seems like every couple of years since, a team tries to go buy a championship, then everyone is shocked when it doesn't work. Washington has tried multiple times, Philly did a couple years ago. The Raiders always bought a lot of players, but it rarely seemed to help their fortunes.
