The big difference is signing your own guys vs signing someone new. I don't think signing Reinhart hurts us at all. He didn't get a ton of money. He is still basically playing for his next contract. We know him, and he is the type of player the team wants. Good team guy. Good role model. Fits our scheme.

But look at it historically. Since FA kicked off, how many teams have gone out and been able to buy a championship. The Cowboys and 49ers each had some success the 1st few years, but that was really it. And those were powerful, established teams, who basically spent to keep most of their own players, and then add a couple of key pieces.

But it seems like every couple of years since, a team tries to go buy a championship, then everyone is shocked when it doesn't work. Washington has tried multiple times, Philly did a couple years ago. The Raiders always bought a lot of players, but it rarely seemed to help their fortunes.

Add in some youth and keep building it up.
Troutman was our most penalized OL, especially given his lower amount of snaps compared to our starting unit in 2013. The fat slug seemed to play worse as the season drew to a close--Are you forgetting his pathetic performances late last season? He's a "lock" until TT drafts his replacement. All our guards are on short deals because they all still have something to prove as starters or potential starters. Rinehart was overpowered at times too and he really needs to stay healthy. But he and Clary are the best we have at this point in the still-young off-season..

For how awful you make them out to be they sure played well compared to the rest of the league. Some of you guys really just don't see how truly bad some team's lines are.

3rd best in adjusted line yards
        8th best adjusted sack %

They were pretty damn good last year.

Can they be upgraded? Yes. Can we win with them? Yes.

Cut Troutman some slack! He was essentially a rookie last season. And in the Denver playoff game the team thrust him into the RG role, which he had never at any level played before and which is usually regarded the more difficult side in a zone blocking scheme. However, he played well enough in stretches to make me comfortable that he is a future starting RG for us, perhaps as early as 2015.

I'm sorry but the guy who gave us the porkchops quote deserves better than this!
            Prediction:
            Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.
