Funny how I don't see any of that after the Titans beat the Pats and the Vikings beat the Saints.
Over the years, the rule changes have changed the game.- It is nearly impossible to play defense anymore unless the refs allow your team to grab and hold, so in theory anyone running a dink and dunk passing offense can throw for 300 yards per game. Making clutch throws and actually winning are separate issue.
- Because there is no tackling in practice, most teams cannot tackle so any team with a great OL and a power running game can dominate the LOS like Titans did to NE and NE did to Chargers....
- Changing the play clock from 30 seconds per play to 45 seconds and keeping the clock running after running out of bounds has speeded up the game by reducing the number of possessions allowing the NFL/media to add any more commercials to make the TV contracts much more valuable.......
Most of today's great pocket QB's are injured or too old or both or have horrible OL's:- Brady
- Brees
- Rivers
- Manning
- Big Ben
- Rodgers
- Luck
Bad OL play has created problems for pocket QB's and are motivating teams to go and get more mobile QB's......
So you are saying that instead of the QB's listed above you would rather have a running QB like Jackson, Watson, Allen, .... etc??? Eventually defenses will adjust and you will again need a QB who can actually throw consistently accurately!

I think Mahomes is the closest thing to what a modern NFL QB needs to be.
You're right that the league has changed and the rules are now more geared towards offense and protecting a QB. If you look at the list of QBs that are in the playoffs, there are more mobile QB's than ever before.
There has been a shift and that shift has tilted towards finesse and offense.
Just like the NBA used to be known for tough defense in the 80's and 90's that focused around a strong center. Sometime in the mid to late 2000's the rules changed in favor of offense as well and these days it's 3 point shooters and versatile big men that can shoot and pass that is required to win.
Games evolve and the NFL has evolved and what was necessary to win then needs to be re-evaluated in order to win now. Of course there will always be anomalies but the trend has shifted.

I was simply trying to make a joke out of the same arguments we always hear about how great QBs win no matter what. It takes a team to win...always has, always will.

Basically, you're saying you want a QB that can make all the reads and throws of a Brady, Brees, Peyton, Rivers, etc but can also run like Lamar or Mahomes. You're simply describing the perfect dream QB.

The importance of being able to scramble is more important today than it's ever been before and the amount of mobile QB's leading their teams into the playoffs these days proves that. Just look through the list of who is still remaining.
The change in rules has played a big part in this. QB's are more protected than ever before and therefore can stay healthier longer.
