Phil doesn't exactly have the rocket arm of a Herbert, but you still have to respect his deep ball. I look forward to watching the Colts-Steelers Sunday morning before the Chargers game. It could very well be the final match-up between QBs of that 2004 draft. I think PR and the Colts spank the Steelers but good.
He must have an ailment. You dont just lose it all the sudden lol. He isnt done i dont think but he certainly looks bad lately. Got to be some sort of injury going on.
Ben has already said he will be back next season.

Roethlisberger, who underwent elbow surgery last season and reportedly wants to return next season, responded to questions about his health after the game.

"I would say that I don’t feel 100 percent,” Roethlisberger told reporters. “But nobody feels 100 percent right now.”

I guess I am wondering if his elbow is still a problem - a problem that isn't going to be fixable at his age.

I've been reading a lot of speculation this morning about whether Ben is done. Here is just one piece.

Not reading the links. Thats their job to bring up controversy. He just didnt all the sudden just lose it. He isnt what he was but he hasnt been bad this year til lately.

Rivers never let on he was hurting (though we could see it) then we found out at the end of the season he had sore ribs and some other stuff and he considered hanging it up.

I’m loving this season. I’ve always said Chargers failed Rivers after 09. The 2010 special teams debacle, always going for the cheap coaches, no big FA splashes, not really fixing the Oline knowing he’s not mobile.

He’s playing statistically better than last year with less offensive weapons. I feel our Oline has been trash since 09. Imagine if they would’ve just got the man an Oline. I feel a lot of his bad INT seasons came from terrible Oline play and him just trying to keep the team in the game regardless of what it would do to his stats.

Actually, it's quite common for QBs approaching 40 to suddenly lose it. Again, I wonder if his surgically repaired elbow is acting up again and due to his age no amount of surgery is going to fix it. I sustained some damage to the knuckle joint of one of my fingers playing softball. The hand specialist said if I was younger he would perform surgery to repair it, but because I'm older he is reluctant to do the surgery because he doesn't think it is repairable. I wonder if that is going to be the case with Ben and his elbow.

Rivers in 2014 was arguably the best player in the NFL the first half of the season. The offense was elite; Reich really helped Rivers.
The revolving door at center, the loss of Woodhead and his bulging disc/back problems derailed an MVP type season.

Pittsburgh needs to look to the future now at qb. Probably should have done it last draft when they had the opportunity. What a pickle they are in now; too good to get a whiff at a blue chipper.
Good! Fuck them! 10-6 as far as the eye can see. Wild card playoff exits will be a good year for them.

Roethlesberger took a lot of hits during his career with the style of football he plays.
Injuries will crop up for him from now on if he continues. If its not the wrist it will be something else.

This was actually going to the 2nd half of my point. I think the Chargers braintrust decided to move one from Rivers at this time not because they thought Rivers was done - clearly he is not - but because they had a high draft choice in a year with phenomenal QB talent coming out. That worked out well, better than anyone expected, with Herbert surprising the NFL world with his talent. If Ben is done and doesn't return next season, the Steelers are not going to get what the Chargers got in Herbert. They are going to draft in the bottom third probably no matter what. They could end up in QB purgatory for awhile.

I guess the moral of my story is that the for the Colts and the Chargers the decision to move on from Rivers is a win for both teams. The Colts got what they wanted/needed - a QB that can get them over the hump when the rest of their team is built to win now, and the Chargers got what they wanted/needed, a generational talent at QB capable of carrying the franchise for a couple of decades.

I'll be pulling for Rivers and the Colts this post season, for sure.

No idea but he is 38, how old were you?
His elbow could be acting up but im sure he wont say. Something is up with him.
Im sure they will be looking at QBs in this draft or FA'cy....somewhere for the future. Rudolph didnt look good last year.

Sunday 12/27/20 at the Steelers will be Rivers 239th consecutive start and he will now be 58 consecutive starts behind Brett Favre's all time record of 297. (Including the playoffs it will be Rivers 250th consecutive start which is also 2nd all time, and 71 behind Favre's total record of 321).

Rivers is also only 1 td behind Marino for 5th place all time.
