There are two ways of context to look at this.

Your way, which is not wrong, trading for a veteran receiver is not going to make this team a SB contender.

The other way, stated by countless NFL observers after Monday watching Herbert throw for 350 yards with no TDs and 7 drops...."for god sake get this gifted QB a legitmate verteran receive he can count on"

Some verteran WR help doesnt have to break the bank in draft picks or salary. Shit you could add Darius Slayton and he would be the Chargers most productive receiver with his 312 yards.

      It's NOT rocket science . . . . . . . .

KC built their oline from the inside out, we did the opposite. Even factoring in all of the other elements that make up the differences between the 2 teams it seems obvious which way is better . . . . . particularly with a pocket passer like Herbert.

      Early pressure up the middle was Brady's kryptonite too . . . . . .

If you're going to trade a draft pick or picks for anyone at any position, I think he should be under contract beyond this season, or you KNOW you will sign him to an extension as soon as he enters your building. Slayton is an unrestricted free agent in 2025. He's in his prime now and averages between 40 and 50 receptions a season. He will be 28 in January. I wouldn't trade anything for him.

Doesnt have to be Slayton. The point was the NY Giants 3rd WR is more productive than anyone we currently have.

I didnt have a problem being in the camp of lets get through the season with this young WR crew, but the more i watch I have to say it is not fair to Herbert, this is not a WR group you can win games with. We have a cake schedule and the AFC wildcard is wide open with teams like Bengals, Jets, Dolphins at 2-5.

The defense is playing well. I dont see any excuse for not making tweaks to make this offense functioinable. Herbert deserves better.

Lol. So far he has one more reception in seven games than Ladd McConkey has in six. McConkey has one more touchdown.

I get it. You guys want a receiver. Harbaugh did not sign up for just one season, though. We shouldn't trade a draft pick for a receiver unless it's someone who can have a future with this team. The chances of getting that type of player are very minimal, though.

He has 312 yards and is good for 50 catches a year

We have plugs like Fehoko, Palmer and Raegor who have never done that in their careers. Slayton is just one example of a veteran who could help this weak group. McConkey is coming along fine but he cant do it on his own as you might have noticed.

And what's your plan with that? Trade for a Darius Slayton or someone else who will give us 25-30 receptions the rest of this season and not re-sign him? Why would we give up a draft pick for that?

Fehoko is getting increased playing time because Quentin Johnston is injured. Johnston will be returning. Considering Fehoko caught three passes for 45 yards (15.0 average) against the Cardinals, I think Johnston would have done quite well the other night. Joshua Palmer caught four passes for 63 yards (15.8 average). I don't see how Darius Slayton or someone similar to him would have given us much more, if at all, against the Cardinals.

I'd like to see if we have anything in DJ Chark. If that's possible

To get a wild card position this year by having a functional passing game and offense would be the reason and goal.

350 yards but ZERO TDs...7 dropped passes at crucial times. Our skill group was rated LAST in the NFL going into this season. One 3rd of the season gone that has proven to be accurate. We have the 28th rated pass game and 31st ranked scoring offense.

Why would you sit on your hands and not try to improve that? Do you not owe it to your QB who guts it out no matter what injury he has?

Everyone was thrilled and patting Hortiz on the back when he traded for Molden to improve the secondary. Why is this weak position any different?

Sure , but his only good NFL season was in 2019, and 8 weeks in to the season he hasnt contributed a snap yet.

This could be Hurst #2, likley well on his way to the miss pile. Hortiz has done well with the cheap one year signings but they were never all going to hit. Unfortunately it seems the misses were all on offense...Bozeman, Edwards, Hurst...hopefully not Chark

I don't think you give up a draft pick for a rental receiver with the goal of making a Wild Card game you have a very good chance of losing. I think rentals are for what the Chiefs are doing--going for a realistic shot at a third consecutive Super Bowl title. Trading a draft pick for a receiver who won't be here beyond this season is pretty much useless. All draft picks are valuable, for a variety of reasons.

Now, if the Jets want to trade us Mike Williams while we give them our sixth-rounder in exchange for their seventh, I have no problem with that.
