Storm Norton, T signed with the New Orleans Saints according to NFL.com

I call this addition-by-subtraction for the Chargers; grateful for his stepping in when we had injuries, but always wishing and believing we could do better. In fact, knowing we had to do better.

Note from ChargerBooster: A football truism is “It starts up front” ! Well with Norton, it all-too-often ended up front.

              From Arrowhead Pride:

              3. Tranquill can do a little bit of everything, and he’s particularly impressive in coverage.

The 27-year-old Tranquill is a jack-of-all-trades at the linebacker position who possesses a varied skillset that will benefit the Chiefs in a number of ways. He can be an effective pass-rusher, as evidenced by his five sacks and seven hurries on 70 pass-rush snaps in 2022, but his coverage ability is also impressive.

In fact, Pro Football Focus assigned Tranquill the seventh-best coverage grade among all linebackers with 900+ total snaps last season. For further context, that grade would have led all Chiefs linebackers (regardless of snaps played). Here’s more from the folks at PFF:

“Perhaps most importantly in today’s NFL, Tranquill followed up his 74.6 coverage grade in 2021 with a career-high 75.4 mark, with his 18 stops in coverage a top-20 figure among off-ball linebackers. He also made the absolute most of the occasional blitz, tallying 15 pressures, five sacks and three more quarterback hits on 70 pass-rush snaps.”

It’s worth noting that Tranquill was a safety early in his college career, so he’s a natural fit as a hybrid, coverage linebacker.

All true but he isn't stout against the run. Gets trucked at times but he is a good coverage LB. Tranq and Murray combined for us against the run wasn't a successful duo.

His pass rushing imo isn't really a skill he has but rather good disguises by Staley that allowed him to get those sacks pretty much untouched.

He’s a good player. He’s not pro bowl, due to his weakness v rush. Solid in pass pro. He was a big safety/hybrid in college and a tweener. One of the few tweeners I’ve see transition to a reputable pro career. I like Kendrick more for what LAC needs, but LAC is still thin at LB just like last year. He would have been a good pair WITH Kendrick but he over-valued himself. A common error, now he gets a 1-year prove it deal. I wish him the best, he was a good Charger.

I think he can cover Mayer, don’t think he can stick with Kincaid - if TT is thinking about our key arch foe nemesis at all … cough … ahem. Washington - hmm, he can stick with him but can he cover him? Not sure … depends how well Washington learns the AG School of Post-Up to wall off the defender and give Herbie a target. he is a beast and will out-muscle them but he’s not running away from many LBs in the first 20 where he’ll get most of his work.

Washington would flatten him in rush plays as well
“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

Tranquil, a nice player for the Chargers, is going to thrive in KC. With out luck, he will probably have his best games against the Chargers. Just another in the long list of mistakes this FO continues to make. Dropping Tranquil for an over-the-hill LB who had his best seasons 3 years ago.

                      Spags>>>>>Staley.

will be interesting to see how he uses Tranq. Doubt Kendricks will turn back the clock.

Doubt KC has him play much in running situations. Cover, Rush and Spags loves to blitz.
