      You're right - good point
It can happen, but not too often.

That is rare it happens. To get two for the price of one. Catch my drift.

Just a bit of trivia. Did you know that for most of the NFL's existence, it was a penalty to intentionally try to bat or strip the ball loose from the ball carrier? A fumble had to happen as a consequence of being tackled, it couldn't be intentionally forced by a defender. It took a long time for the NFL to accept forcing fumbles as a part of the game. The rule was changed in 2002.

My doctor is a Giants fan and he had never heard this story. That's Concrete Chuck Bednarik, last two-way player in the NFL. Chuck played
C & LB for the Eagles and in 1962, Bednarik close-lined Frank Gifford.

Here's where things get weird....There was a fatal heart attack in the stands of a patron. The person was brought down out of the stands on a stretcher
and was placed where it could be wheeled to an ambulance. So the cart was waiting for the ambulance, just outside the Giants players entrance. A sheet
pulled over his head. HALFTIME. The Giants walked past the stretcher bearers and the cart.

Giant players started whispering: OMG. Bednarik killed Gifford.

P.S. Gifford didn't play again for 18 months.

The notorious hit on the Giants’ Frank Gifford in 1960 provides insight for anyone involved in football’s current vigilance on concussions.

Ouch...yes, hard hit, but it was a clean tackle:

Yep, nothing wrong with the tackle, more like a body slam than an clothesline. The picture and story is more iconic, and the video wasn't as violent as the injury...kind of like the fatal Dale Earnhardt crash.

The only time I think this rule is unfair to the runner is when you have two defenders holding the runner and a third stripping the ball. Seen it a few times and thought it was a bit perverse when progress has been stopped. It would be different if one guy is tackling and the second guy is hitting the ball out. I would say it should be up to the ref to make a judgement call when there are more than two defenders engaged in the tackling!

They released DT Sheldon Richardson today. I usually dont join in on the "we should sgn him" whenever someone gets cut but Richardson is a solid player.
Our DL depth is awful. He would be an upgrade over anyone we have.
