The Chargers will be something like the 83' Redskins without J. Riggens ?
Or the 85' Bears without that dominant DL ?
I think the defense has a chance to be VERY GOOD. Thats why, if Peters chooses to take his talents elsewhere, a guy like Markus Golden at 5.5m is intriguing to me. Never enough pass rushers for my liking. Maybe an extra DB.
We’ve had trouble scoring more than 20 points a game for much of the season, for years now. There are a few 35 pointers in there, brings up the per game average, but go back and look, our O has been beyond anemic in terms of points scored for frigging years now. Any change is welcome.
This is correct. The offense never scored as much as the talent indicated or I thought it should. Trouble in the red zone was consistent. Terrible special teams which meant losing field position or missing field goals or blocked kicks to lose points that way. The offense well. Where do we start.. Turnovers; Horrible OL giving up sacks or not allowing RB areas to run or Rivers to complete passes which mean 45+ yard field goal attempts
It was a myriad of things. So yes, more running the ball, less turnovers, more punts if need be and playing field position - all fine by me.
It really has been heartbreaking, so many points we should’ve scored left on the field. AL seems to getting his team now, pretty excited to see it in action.

The team left so many points on the field. And yes, I am all for seeing what Anthony Lynn, with his QB, his "run the damn ball" mentality. Maybe his defense. See what he does. I know the past few years - I would take notice of how other teams played. The Panthers with Rivera - even though they had Cam they still liked to run the ball, play good defense. The Ravens - I get they had Lamar last year but at their core, run the ball, play good defense, and GREAT special teams especially with Tucker and Koch the punter
Titans - same thing : run the ball, don't turn it over, good punter in Kern, control the line
I am fine with it. I like it you can run the ball 40x per game and keep the ball for 36+ minutes.

Our offensive scheme has been to run out the clock from the opening gun for years now. There has never been the intent to score early and often.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.
If the Chargers can't score 40 points or more they won't beat the Chiefs nor the Broncos or Raiders. The AFC West will be the Wild Wild West for the next 15 years with all the offense the division drafted. Now you see why the Chargers drafted Herbert, 2 WRs, and a RB. Its score 40 or more or lose for 15 years.

I really hope you're wrong. ha I like watching defenses do well. You're right about the skill spots being heavily drafted in the AFC West. I was probably one of the few Chargers fans during the Fouts era that didn't care for all the scoring - both from us and against us. It fricken wore me out! It didn't look like a football game any more. More like basketball.

If our D is even remotely healthy and we limit our turnover differential to a max of -1 in any of the 6 games, none of them put up a 40 burger against us. Not one.

40 is too much except occasions with multiple turnovers.......... 30's is more likely......
The best defense in NFL last year gave up 31 points to the Chiefs and lost...... because 49ers only scored 20 points.....
The current NFL rules make it easy for any decent well designed offense to score 30+.....
Chargers struggled to score less than 20 points per game last year Offensively..... and not counting OT....... that won't beat very many teams, and keeps the bad ones in the game till the end......
People keep saying how talented our offense and defense are but last year our offense struggled to score.... and our defense gave up a relatively easy score whenever an opposing team really needed it...and most teams played us conservatively because they knew Chargers were not scoring much.... .. bottom line is we were not as talented on offense or defense as some thought....... hence this off season's rebuild.....
to be competitive with most teams, the Chargers need to be averaging about 30 points per game.... an all pro defense cannot shut down a great offense like KC....... the rules will not allow the techniques that great defenses like the 85 bears and ravens used to employ..... We still will need to score over 30 to beat chiefs..... NE has only beat them scoring over 30..... Chargers beat them once with a little less than 30 ONLY because we chose to smartly go for 2 instead of tying game and going to OT which would have meant winner would have scored over 30.....
if the chargers get back to scoring close to or above 30 points per game we will win more than we lose and it will put pressure on our opponent to score over 30 to win, and a talented well coached defense may be able to create a turnover or bat a ball away, etc at a critical time to help you win..... only bad offenses can be shut out today......
Chiefs defense is not great.... but the chiefs offense is so scary explosive that conservative teams struggle mightily to keep up and that pressure causes bad decisions, desperate throws, etc..... some coaches chose to go for it on 4th downs just because they were afraid of giving ball back top chiefs offense......

That was the past. Every team is planning to beat the Chiefs, and the Chiefs drafted a great speed RB that will make them almost unstoppable. All the teams in the West are planning to score 40 points a game if needed. The AFC West is changing the game. Hence all the speed on offense drafted.
The Chargers are going to be fine, and in every game with their new talent. It's going to be fun for us fans, we're moving from the merry-go-round to the roller coaster. That's why I called it the Wild Wild West.
BTW, The NFL Network asked TT directly if Hebert had been taken by MIA at 5, what would TT do..... TT told them he would have taken Tua. TT said they had Burrow, Tua and Hebert as top 5 or 6 players..... did not put them in any order, just said they believe all 3 have a chance to be franchise QB's.....
