Jason Verrett showed up at the combine at 189 lbs. Up from around 175 ...biggest he ever been because his size was in question. He ran the 2nd fastest time of the DBs at 4.38.

On one draft site, Bowers is shown as a 4.48...not sure where that came from so I don't believe it till I see it. If Bowers runs a 4.55 I'm good with it. Anything below is a great. Most importantly, he plays fast all the time.
Team media guides are reliable with height & weight?

He seems like a 4.48 guy on tape.
Part of his appeal is that speed.

Carrying 10 extra pounds suddenly gained generally makes people slower and less explosive.

At pick #5, or even #11, I'd like that clarity.

I'd like to see him run and be weighed on the same day, and I've been saying it since January.

Define "suddenly". Gain 10 pounds in 10 days drinking beer and eating chips, yeah, not good.
Gain ten pounds in a few weeks of intense workouts,no problem.
When I was 20 yo, I gained 30 lbs in 8 weeks of Army Basic at FT Polk and guaranteed I was stronger, faster, more explosive and had greater endurance.
That was my experience, anyway. Years later, training in a gym with football players, martiaL artists and Mr America wannabes, I can see where added muscle bulk wasn't what you want in a TE.
I guess it depends on how he trained. The End.

That's not accurate, because not all positions pay equally. Quarterbacks get paid more than guards, and defensive ends get paid more than running backs.

          'Splain it to me
My impression is that we can get an impact TE at #5 for less financial obligation than WR or OT.
          Is that true?

I just don't see the Cardinals trading back if MHJ is there.

We can absolutely take a team to the cleaners for the McCarthy and Nabers bidding wars though.

I prefer OL with the trade back afterwards, but I wouldn't be opposed to Bowers or Odunze if they're there.

It sounds like Hortiz go the gameplan for #5 though accounting for multiple situations.

They way I understand it is the total value of the #5 pick is $37M regardless of the pick. The value comes in with how it stacks with the contracts from that position. For example, if compared to TEs that would be the 11th highest paid TE in the league. If compared to WR's that would be the 24th highest paid WR in the league.
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

Football players train intensely year round.

The period between his playing weight and his combine weight.
If he hasn't played at that weight, i'd like to know more before investing a top 11 pick on him.

Sure, the hasn't played at that weight part is speculation - but many people are in that way of thinking.

Bosa famously gained 10 - 20 pounds last off-season: you never know individually how the body will respond.

Bowers says that he'll run in early April - so, we'll see.

Every body is different. I could go on about training freaks i've seen but why bother.

A lot of guys struggle to maintain weight while playing.

So by your view.....if Ben Herbert makes our guys stronger and they add muscle and made leaner and get a little bigger you are saying he is slowing down our team? I would very much disagree with that! Also Bowers turned 21 in Dec.

I dont mean to be insulting at all, but Id say you havent played sports if thats your take on it.

Exactly...everybody is different. Some add bulk and it doesnr affect them. Some like Hardwick and Donnie Edwards had trouble keeping bulk on. Look at Hardwick now! Some guys are very durable and some guys are always dinged up or plain hurt and cant play.

as a guy that not only doesn't watch so much football, let alone film, 'tis always a laugh for me when I read what peoples say about the film, and that are watching the exact same film !!

recall watching Vita Vea a fair bit coz I took alotta grief for pimping him, and peoples pointing out that he wasn't all that coz o' this nor that, and.... would always wonder how they missed the incessant double and triple teams, and yet he would still get pressure on the QB/collapse the pocket, and.... on top of that, the prospect that other posters were pimping rarely even got double teamed, yet they held Vea to the same standards even tho it was a way of life for him ??

and again, don't watch a ton of film, but watching Fuaga, just don't see how peoples don't see the difference between him and the other two tackles.... dude has billy clubs for hands.... defenders don't come into his inner circle if they don't have to.... all it takes is a little palm of the hand shove from Fuaga, and defenders keep their distance, and.... when someone (like Latu) does get around Fuaga, it's not so timely a maneuver, as they've def had to pay the piper, and couldn't imagine what it's like going up against Taliese for four quarters.... god awful eye would guess.

he is such the better pick @tackle than the others, 'specially given we are now Harbo/GRo brand football.
