Yeah but why think Perryman will be available in the playoffs when he never has? And moving guys out of the best possible position they play is always not the best idea, see losing to NE. MLB is still high for me, hopefully for TT too.

If you look back at every LB taken from Bama since 2010...like 95% of them are on teams that run a 34. Can 34 MLBs play 43 MLB? Obviously. But that school for some reason seems to put those players on NFL teams that run a 34. Its just some strange conspiracy theory on my part im sure. I probably spend to much time investigating little things like that.
There's 3 words often used by SEALs when they talk about what makes the best operator. Shoot....move.....and communicate. He does all those. lol
This is a diffcult defense to pick up...let alone call. Perryman knows the verbage and makes this team better. Obviously his injury history is scary. But if we can find a guy in the mid rounds to learn from him and if he goes down take over for him it allows us to focus in other areas of need as well.

agree that MLB round one doesn't make much sense, and that someone like Takitaki might make a lot more sense later.... (no thank you to Tre Lamar btw).
and disagree that a NT isn't an impact position.... when we've had a good one, we've had a great/top ten defense.
otherwise teams are moving the chains on us.... bring in a NT to stop the first and second down madness.
and think JJ is more of a penetrator than a blockeater, 2gapper or anchor sort.
also if you check Shelton's pass rush grades/pressures, don't think he's just a one dimensional "role player."
agree we prolly don't need a Takeo Spikes 2.0 big run stuffing LB.
and again, would wager that a top shelf NT is a bigger difference maker than a penetrating 3T.
ready to move on from Liuget/Philon.... Simmons @28, Dex @60, Trysten @91.
no thank you to either of Tillery or Dre'Mont and think Simmons is a 2020 Pro Bowler.
and not sure that Adderly and/or Deionte are holding value @28 any longer ??ED Matayo Uiagalelei, CB Domani Jackson, OG Earnest Greene III, DT Dontay Corleone, OC Iapani Laloulu, WR J Michael Sturdivant, LB Eric Gentry
ED Malcom Koonce, LB Isaiah Simmons, TE Cade Otton, RB Kyren Williams, QB Gardner Minshew, TE Jelani Woods, P Matt Araiza

Rams defense was awful at times with a good NT. And I think Aaron Donald was far more impactful for them than Suh was. Just saying.
Will say that mock you put up the other day in your post, I could be on board with that though.Last edited by Boltjolt; 03-08-2019, 05:28 PM.

There are differences in the 34 LB compared to 43 Mike. Mostly the pursuit angles and leverage in squeezing down the run lanes. To some degree, the 34 LB are more a side to side kinda thing. The "Bubbles" - uncovered OG- give a free shot at the ILB is also not something 43 LB have to face. The 43, the Mike has a downhill path to various inside gaps. It really favors someone who can read the play and then just attack the gaps on the pursuit side.
I think Wilson is a better fit for a 43 LB than a 34. The 34 guys have to be more deliberate on their angles and squeezing down gaps in run support. It takes more discipline, and a bit of patience. Not that they don't fly around some, but they have to take the right angles and pick their moments. Wilson strikes me as a better fit as a 43 Will, or even a Mike LB if you cover him up and let him run to the ball. When he had to step up and play the run, he had to wade through a lot of trash to get to the ball. HE should have a lot less of that to do in the 43, so he will be free to just run and hit, which is what he does well.
When players are a better fit to one D that another, it never means they can't play the other, just that a guy who might be average in one, might really fit the assignments better in another. Wilson was a good LB who has great coverage skills, but has the aggresiveness and throws his body around, but just has trouble with the angles he got in Bama. If we want him to be his best, we probably do need to beef up the DT spots, to try and keep him clean so he can just run to the ball.

Im curious to see how much we are paying Perryman. We almost had no choice since he can come in and call the D. Expecting a rookie or even a free agent to come in and get everyone lined up would have been a tall task. I dont think he is the long term solution. But he does ease some of the desperation of having to educate a new player in the middle of this D.
I have liked Wilson from the start. I could see a team like Baltimore taking him. I think hes the 2nd best MLB prospect in the draft.
Its not a deep draft for 3 downs types. I expect he and White to be gone. Im still really wanting to put some studs in the trenches. But that first round pick should BPA. I have always identified DL, LB and OL as needs. Hes a fit.

Nwosu is the guy that is probably going to take over Emmanuel's spot. Again, OTTO is about jamming the TE at the line and controlling the TE release. Wilson is not that kind of player, so he is not going to play OTTO. Perryman is not exactly the prototype at OTTO either. Usually, you want 34 OLB types, who are DE/OLB tweener types, who probably played most of the time in college as a DE, because most of the assignments are the same as the OTTO.
I would think Wilson and Perryman would compete for head to head at Milke LB, because we have a pretty good competition set up between White and Brown at Will LB.
Traditionally, Wilson is a better fit as a WILL LB. Fast, sideline to sideline type who can run everything down. However, teams playing the Pete Carroll/George Siefert defense have used bigger, more physical players at the WIll LB spot and some of the faster, more mobile LB at Mike. Perryman was used at WILL LB in the base D 2 years ago, but then slide inside to play MIKE in the dime package.

I love those Powell boards growing up. Sims as well. But i wish i had that original Pineapple. I think i cut my teeth on Veriflex boards. Stone wheels.
Most of the boards i made were really big street luge type stuff. I grew up in Point Loma so the hills around my house were epic to bomb. Scream down Gage...make that sharp right turn onto Talbot...dodging cars.....and flying right into the SDYC entrance. lol We were scary kids.
I lost my fabricating interest when i had a bunch of metal splinters get into my eyes from sanding down trucks. I had to wear eye patches for a week. Blind for a week. Minor eye surgery. Sucked.
