Dan Brugler has us picking Dexter Lawrence now. Not sure he's the best fit in today's passing NFL.

    28. Los Angeles Chargers - Dexter Lawrence, DT, Clemson (6-4 1/2, 342, 5.05)
There are only so many humans on this planet who have Lawrence's unique blend of size, power and movement skills, which could see him come off the board earlier than this. With Brandon Mebane's future with the team uncertain, Lawrence would give the Chargers an upgrade at the position.

Um yes we did. Hunt had 16 carries for 39 yards in the first game of the season. We also faced Todd Gurley, James Conner, David Johnson, Shady McCoy,Joe Mixon, etc. These are NFL RBs. It's like saying everyone we have at RB besides Gordon sucks, but the fact is they don't .

No excuses, our run D was better last season but it wasn't against the Pats.

I don't see the problem with getting a guy if he's a "sure thing" at stopping the run. Look at the AFC Championship game and see how many rushing yards the Patriots got on with nobodies at RB because that's how bad we are at stopping the run.
NE had a Sony Michael at RB, so the NE having nobodies at RB is complete bullshit. He was a 1st round draft pick, and part of the best RB combo in the NCAA.

We were ranked #9 vs the run last year. Not one of the worst run D.

Most of the playoff teams the last 3 or so years have ranked in the 20's or worse vs the run.

One of the most effective ways of playing effective run D is to simply get a lead and make the other team play from behind. You might not stop the run, but it will teach them a lesson if they run the clock out on themselves.

Anyone who thinks Dexter Lawrence is a sure thing is kidding themselves. He is a boom or bust, which is to say he is HIGH RISK. Again, if a player has 1 great season followed by two downs seasons, another big old red flag. His weight is another. The fact that he is only a run down player is yet another.

Plus, if we draft a DT in the 1st, how are we going to fill the pass rushing DT spot? We desperately need help pushing the pocket and taking away QB lane to step up into. That will make our edge rushers more effective.

Sony Michel was underrated coming out of college and I was pissed when NE picked him. He's a stud and he's going to be good for years.

As for DT, I've been saying we need strength up the middle. Guys who can anchor the inside and push the pocket are what the good dr is ordering. That's why I wanted Malik Jackson. I don't watch much college football or the underwear olympics so I have to take you people's good word on this stuff. I'm just giving you the profile of our needs. Thomas Davis should help for a year as a guy who gives us toughness and smarts up the middle. Get a hammer S and some DT's and let's roll.

Mom O better OG play. Hopefully Lamp. If not, get somebody

As was Chubb. Georgia is starting to be to RB's what Clemson has been to WR's since Hopkins came out.

Dexter Lawrence falls to us at 28? Yea...there are some players I like better, but if they are gone, and we get this guy, it's still a steal...and I'm pretty sure Gus will know how to use him, regardless of what some here believe his "defensive philosophy" is.
                      Lone Bolt's Final Mock

Tyler Booker G, Josaiah Stewart Edge, Cam Skattebo RB, Mitchell Evans TE, Jamaree Caldwell NT, Isaac TeSlaa WR, Ahmed Hassanein DE, Craig Woodson S, Eli Cox C, Kalel Mullings RB

Sleeper day 3 pick: Tahj Brooks RB Texas Tech

At 28, it's gonna be (S) J. Abram, (OT) A Dillard, (DT) D., Lawrence or (OT) D. Risner.
Any of them is there, pick him.
