So to me, the Chargers did get older if you will with players like Cook and Daniels but other areas got younger.

But Square was replaced by younger, Linsley younger than Pouncey, Hayward replaced by Samuel. So overall, the Chargers I think got younger at key positions. If your back up QB is older, thats not a big deal. The Chargers did not have a Cardinals offseason.
Generally I agree. Younger players are cheaper, faster and stay on the field more. That said, I think one can fixate on it too much and view it in absolutist terms. JMO.

Some of it is positional too, o-lineman, QBs and kickers have longer lifespan.

Running backs? I'd never sign a veteran free agent if it wasn't a budget signing.

        Looks about right.
        WRS is up for grabs.
        JJones starts/gets starting snaps.
        Derwin at FS?

        Not seeing that.

In Staley’s system there isn’t much difference between the 2 DS spots.

But there’s an enormous difference between Derwin’s skill set and Nas’ skill set. Staley’s also known for tailoring roles based on what a player does well.

So if there isn’t a lot of difference between DS in Staley’s scheme, but there is a major difference in player attributes, how does Staley adapt?

This is the issue I tried to address in the Nas thread I started today.

I suppose, but to call Derwin a FS and Adderley a SS is a reversal of the laws of motion

Our interest in Austin Proehl is interesting
not a burner type (sorry chainy)
just another pair of sure-hands and strong route runner
Lombardi is counting on Herbert’s accuracy, and asking WRs to simply make the catch.
we’re sacrificing speed so to me that means we’re comfortable with our vertical threats and are looking for guys who can get open underneath with precise routes to stretch the field horizontally
                        idk maybe

Regional combine said he ran a 4.4 so he has some speed. Good route runner and pretty sure handed. Also played in the XFL. Another Lynn disciple Cardale Jones (Hi LT) threw the rock to him. Maybe he is our poorman’s version of Edelman.
