The Jags are stocking up on WRs and Johnson is at the top of their list.

The Jaguars on Wednesday signed the following players to the practice squad:
      • Wide Receivers: Phillip Dorsett II, Devin Smith, Laquon Treadwell, Jeff Cotton Jr. and Josh Hammond

Don’t forget the best ability is availability.

A day later, and the T-Billy cut still leaves me wondering. Today's waiver wire pickups don't provide any additional clarity on the approach either.

What does not having Johnson do to our team speed? He runs the 40 in the 4.3s. We still have Guyton, but he's the only guy on the offense who has that kind of speed, as far as I know. If Guyton goes down, there's nobody else in the WR corps who has that type of deep speed who can take the top off of a defense.

I think another team will sign Johnson. He's too talented and put that talent on display last season catching long balls from Herbert. He won't make it the Bolts' PS. I'll bet you Lynn is salivating in Detroit to have Johnson in his WR room. I can also see the Bengals wanting to bring in another fast WR with good hands for Joe Burrow. And I can see Belichick trying to get him for Mac Jones* and turning him into another Wes Welker.

I'm giving Staley the benefit of the doubt, and continue to believe there were other reasons for letting Johnson go that people in the know aren't talking about.

*I initially wrote Mac Davis, but he only played a QB in the movies. (Only old-timers will get this without Googling.)
Johnson literally did not make it past one team in the waiver claiming process.

You are correct - one would think there might be some of the veteran FAs signed after that first week.

Roster isn’t set yet but a move to the PS is very likely.

My best guess is Johnson doesn't have it between the ears and that's why no team was going to give up a 7th or future pick for him

Yep, I think Wagner and Schwartz (if he wants to come back) will sign with contenders.

Unless you are a RB named Kelley. Then there is no good availability.

But the Chargers might be able to pay a player more than other teams - if they so choose. This isn't like the buyout market in teh NBA where usually the players can only signed the minimum veterans deal as most of the good teams are over the cap

Also no games have been played -- so nobody really knows who the contenders will be. So get 2.5m from the Chargers over say $1m from the Chiefs - might be a preference.
