The chargers signed someone just last week when weaver got hurt, if it was hunt, he didn’t look good…

on defense #38 a DB kept popping up just taking bad angles and missing tackles badly, I’m not sure who he is but he cost the chargers an interception in the end zone last week against the rams, he looks like early cut material…
    Appreciate the informed opinions.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

FYI, Sarell was a 5 star out of high school. Can he make it as a pro? The paid talking heads don’t know.

I'm thrilled with Palmer's progress. Helps a LOT (this season, and ongoing).

I just hate that our "22 backups" seem significantly worse than most other team's "22 backups". Always and forever. And it seems to become a major problem when the annual injury curse rears it's ugly head.

I'm fine blaming Telesco for bad picks, but so many of us stated that this year we'd really get to watch Staley pick HIS guys. Well, this would be one of them. So shared blame (if he doesn't improve).

Tillery is one of the worst run defenders in the entire league by pretty much any metric you can choose to name. As a pass rusher he is still below league average by almost every metric. You can say the hate is ridiculous but if Tillery was anything other than a former 1st rounder there would be no question about him getting cut.

I agree that we should carry 6 IDL this year, but the light boxes aren’t going to change. If anything you will see more this year since our 4 man front players this year are all more than capable run defenders whereas last year Staley had to keep 3 IDL on the field to even have a hope of stopping the run.
I avoid talking about Tillery as much as I can, I don’t pretend to speak for anyone else but I don’t think fans hate Tillery. I think folks are just frustrated that he hasn’t lived up to his potential. I, like many here only point out what is apparent to everyone, Tillery has been a bust, there is no other way to put it….The team liked his pass rushing ability in college and hoped he’d develop into a competent player against the run but he was one of the worse IDL against the run in his draft class and he hasn’t done anything to change that. Sometimes you just have to trust the tape a player produced in college.

What makes Tillery so frustrating is that the physical ability is there but he just hasn’t applied it on the field and I think that’s why folks are even more disappointed than normal…It’s upsetting because the team and some fans are probably concerned that he’ll just go somewhere else and decide to play the way he’s capable of playing…

I didn’t thinl Salyer had a great game, he was better than the guys that came later though. Norton fell so far behind in the RT competition, imo its over. confess i was pulling for Pipkins all summer, i just think he has better tools. Zion and Pipkins seemed to have good chemistry together working as a pair. And Pipkins was downfield hunting for work every rush play, he was the guy that escorted Palmer to the end zone on the WR screen TD. He didn’t pancake anyone on the way there but he was in the way and he was trying. He’s on a mission it appears, I’m comfortable he can play starting RT well enough to let Herb and Co make enough plays to score points.
Pipkins looks like he’ll be an upgrade over norton this season, how much of an upgrade still remains to be seen, but he has definitely pulled away from norton…if he can grade out in the 68-70 range weekly then the chargers have themselves a bridge player until the team finds the RT of the future…pipkins is 27 so I’m not sure he has anymore upside left, I’ll be really happy if he proves me wrong tho

I agree, he’s most likely using miami and LA as negotiation leverage with jerry jones, he’s got a relationship with Staley (believe staley was his intern?) so it shocked the hell outta me that he came out and said that about coming to LA…

After we win the Super Bowl this year, the Chargers will be eliminated from his coaching possibilities!

Looking over the game again without a 4 year old needing my attention and I have a few random thoughts.

Kemp looks like a natural pass rusher to me.
Popper said Davis the better run defender, I wonder who we prefer if it came down to those 2 for our 4th edge?

Also, Bandys listed weight is 190, which is good, but he looks even bigger, closer to 200.
                    we have some strong wrs

...not if he's applying for the GM role.

My preference was Nick Cross (who btw is playing well in Indy so far), but I could understand their thinking - wanting a bona fide ballhawk on the back end. JT Woods’ tackling issues were certainly no secret, so I’m guessing Staley went in understanding that he may take some time to develop. The athleticism, hands & instincts were clearly evident at Baylor. But great gobs o’ goose shit, his tackling has been downright embarrassing so far. Hopefully he turns it around, but definitely a work in progress.
