Did the Chargers ever use the push the QB play like the Eagles did

Fehoko is a pretty big dude - I am sure he could have given Herbert some help at times

As for the note above about using the FB- I did wonder why Horvath wasn't used more in a two back set with Ek or Kelley

Maybe it is as simple as
    the OL needs cohesion
    and
Lombo was not the best OC in the NFL (or he sucked )

When your QB is dealing with bad ribs and then a torn labrum, it would not be a great play call to try the push play.

Herbert doesn't even need it, when healthy he's one of the best in the NFL at converting short yardage situations...

Agree - he is big and strong. I expect he runs a bit more this year.

Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

I think he will - not Josh Allen type of runs, but I expect he does use his legs a bit more this year.

I hate seeing him get hit. Even the “little” ones take a toll. These are big bad defenders with evil intent he’s trying to avoid. When did he tear his labrum? So I say take no hits and play again tomorrow.

I don’t want to see them turn him into a running qb at all, no sir. Occasional escape runs … maybe rare 4th down A gap dive, but not an Allen etc. I don’t like the risk equation. Get the ball to someone we can survive being injured. I love that he’s learned to slide before he’s hit, even at the cost of another 5 yards.

I’m praying for a jumbo package of Matlock at FB and Horvath at RB on short yardage plays. Or do what the Eagles did and just pushed Herbert forward by using Matlock and Horvath.

                        I agree

To me, more incompetence from the coaching staff not using what the league allows. I am not sure how a torn labrum or whatever would affect Herbert on that play against the jags for instance. Snap the ball, Horvath and Fehoko double team him and push him forward.

The Eagles did it with Jalen Hurts all the time - and it worked. A lot

I hope so. Even though Lombardi called a fair amount of RPOs it felt like Herbert never called his own number, even when it was wide open for him. If he does that even once a game, when it is really safe and he can run out of bounds, it will help open up the run game.
