    1. Ekeler wants a long-term contract
    2. If a team wanted him, that team and Ekeler would agree upon a long-term contact.
    3. That contract would be contingent upon the that team and the Chargers agreeing on draft compensation.

If the Chargers were able to get a pick for Ekeler, they would use that pick and the #1 to ensure they get Bijan. For all we know, the Chargers couldn't care less about Bijan. I doubt that's true, but I really don't know.

If there is a small chance that one team might trade for Ekler it could be the Falcons. They run the ball a ton and only have Allgeier and a 32 year old Cordelle, plus have the 4th most cap space and need to help a young QB trying to be a starter.

Bengals have $17m of cap space
if they trade Jonah Williams and don't take back salary - that goes close to 30m
        Perine went to the Broncos

Falcons are a good name though - would help Ridder. They just traded for Jonnu Smith - he can also run the ball out of the backfield and would be another option for Arthur Smith and for Ridder

The market is tough for Ekeler. Not sure a team will both pay him and give him something more than a Day 3 pick.

The Chargers can add a pick in the draft in Rounds 2-7, have 8 picks and actually save close to $1.5m of cap space by not having a first round pick Plus it Telesco can get a bunch of singles and doubles, not picks like JT Woods - but for the round, a bunch of Nick Niemanns who actuall play and contribute, will actually improve the roster depth with cheaper players on 4 year deals

If Telesco trades up - not only does the team lose cap space not only this but in future years since Round 1 picks are so miuch more expensive, especially higher in the first - which they have little of - they also lose a player on a four year cheap deal with the player used in the trade. The Chargers cannot have their cake and eat it too
Not against trading down but Telesco did say he would rather have good players than have cap space.

For me it just depends on who is on the board and how they rank them.

In 10 years he has zero trade downs.

No team is going to trade for him until he greatly lowers his contract demands. At that point, Ekeler will probably agree to a very similar long-term contact the Chargers would probably offer him.

                Player psychology:
                - Player is dissed, because his current team is only willing to offer him a three-year contract valued at $X amount yearly
                - Player is happy, and feels wanted by his new team, despite the fact they gave him the same contract his original team offered him.
                - Player can't wait to play against his asshole former team, who didn't appreciate his true value.

In fact they have to nail this draft beyond round 1 to add some much needed depth to this roster this year and next when they have to pay Herbert. You aren't seeing them do much in FA because they don't have the cap to do it. Hitting multiple draft picks is more important than ever now
My victory lap shall be a spectacular one.

With his production, I don't have any doubt a team would give up a 3 or a 4 for him. However, they aren't going to pay his delusional contract demand. If he's willing to be reasonable, which will hopefully come in time, he will get traded.

                    Worse case scenario:
                    - Ekeler never lowers his contract demands;
                    - He becomes a problem-child for the Chargers just like MGIII; and
                    - The Chargers trade him for a shit-pick, OR dump him for nothing just to get rid of the distraction.

EK's misread of his market value is epic. Chargers have an opportunity to be very good this year (not saying they will; coaching, injuries, KC). Do they want this to be a storyline and distraction for the next 6 months? I doubt it. Time to move on from EK. Unfortunate; but it is what it is. This is EK's doing.
