I thought this too...the higher up in the rd the more cap that player is going to get. 21 isnt so high that you can grab a no-brainer...but if a no-brainer drops to 21 then take him. otherwise I'm for trading down for more picks if another team wants to dance.

He had a mentor in this situation with mg3. hopefully Ek learned from that previous idiot cuz I've liked Ek from the start.Originally posted by Air Coryell View PostEK's misread of his market value is epic. Chargers have an opportunity to be very good this year (not saying they will; coaching, injuries, KC). Do they want this to be a storyline and distraction for the next 6 months? I doubt it. Time to move on from EK. Unfortunate; but it is what it is. This is EK's doing.

But what if the trade to the Bengals is actually better compensation and better for the Chargers than trading with the NFCOriginally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post
Dont ever see Chargers trading Ekler to an AFC contender like Bengals
I totally understand what you are saying. And I am not saying the Bengals would get the same deal for Ekeler that the Falcons would get - meaning the point chart valuation. On paper, the Chargers would have to win the deal with Cincy. With Atlanta, on paper - it would need to be equal

If a team wanted him they would get him now and not trade away a 1st rounder. What you state does not add up.Originally posted by LarryAW View Post
1. Ekeler wants a long-term contract
2. If a team wanted him, that team and Ekeler would agree upon a long-term contact.
3. That contract would be contingent upon the that team and the Chargers agreeing on draft compensation.
If the Chargers were able to get a pick for Ekeler, they would use that pick and the #1 to ensure they get Bijan. For all we know, the Chargers couldn't care less about Bijan. I doubt that's true, but I really don't know.
Unless he falls we are not getting Bijan. The draft capital to move up in the top 10 is way too high for a team that needs so much and has to pay Herbert with no cap space. If he falls out of the top 10 and somewhere between 16 and 20 we may have a change to get him, IF we want. Teams don't value RBs so it's not impossible. But trading up into the top 10, no way, no how.

I was getting heartburn thinking this was their actual plan...No way I'm moving up there unless it's a QB I like similar to what the chiefs did with Mahomes...Originally posted by charger1_sj View Post

Brady--Gronk.
Rodgers--Davante.
Burrow--Chase..
Mahomes--Kelce.
Herbert--Bijan.
We can deal with the scrubbery.

Three down back is a guy you can use every down, not that you do use him every down. Bijan is that guy of course, but there’s like a 1% chance he drops to 21. Adding nobody (or another JAG) isn’t gonna get our running game outta the basement it’s in, new OC or no.Originally posted by charger1_sj View Post
We don't need an every down back IF Ekeler stays. What we need is a big guy that can get the tough 3-4 yards when needed.
Ideally someone like Bijan would work. But we don't want to feed him the ball 300 times/yr. That just wears him down and more
prone to injury. Look at what is happening across the league. Teams are going with 2 RBs. The day of the bell cow RB is over.
I actually prefer a multi-dimensional guy like CMC or Ekeler to a guy that carries the ball 300 times and does nothing else. Our
problem was not Ekeler, it was the failure of TT to get a guy to complement Ekeler.

With Herbert’s contract coming up and all the other big contracts we’re carrying, why not burn future high picks in a trade to grab a guy who can help now? Saves the cost of higher priced salaries down the road. Something to think about.Originally posted by charger1_sj View Post

I disagree...this draft is deeper at RB than last year...we flung a dart at Spiller but he can be replaced if someone else excels beyond his capabilities. I'd rather draft Kincaid at 21 and then a couple more backs thru ought the rest of the draft than move up and waste draft capital. Gibbs or Kincaid at 21 and I'd be happy.Originally posted by blueman View Post
