With a draft so deep at WR, they can use their picks to replace the playmakers they jettisoned with younger, faster, cheaper playmakers.
Remodeling a house. Rather let the best materials fall in my lap...then build with lesser materials just because i want an updated house. Long run that makes a team weak imo. And i tend to think the reason why the Ravens are good every year for so long now is exactly that type of draft strategy.

Good analogy there, Fleet...for example, when we had our house built, we were shown several upgrades, but most of these were at very inflated prices. For example, the builder wanted to charge us over $10k for tile instead of carpet (and this was about 20 years ago). We thought this was too high. We went ahead and went with the carpet and later on had the tile done, for a lot less, hiring our own subcontractor. This is similar to what Trader Joe is doing--avoiding the high ticket items whenever possible and going with a lot of lower priced one year deals, with a few 2 or 3 year contracts for the better players. And when he was with the Ravens he and DeCosta let some of the higher priced players go at the end of their deals, and stockpiled a lot of 3rd and 4th round comp picks. Smart.

                  I like that. lol

Ill say this...if we let Mike and Keenan play this season...and then let them walk...we have less cap to roll over next year. Its doubtful that the new look Chargers long term would continue to pay these aging vets big money. We didnt do much with them anyways. And outside of Herbert...the one thing we needed to change? Was everything. If we had Keenan in 2024 and let him hit free agency...we could only get a 5th round comp for him anyways. And thats if we dont bring in any UFA. And sitting likely top 5 in cap space next year? We will be busy shopping.

It makes all the sense in the world to draft a WR replacement for these 2. And there are a couple guys that may end up making 25M a year in 5 years. And at pick 5 i want a premium guy that will command that. However Bowers has made me rethink that but just for him. Normally i have no desire to use a high 1 on a TE, But he is much more than that. I see a WR and TE. I see HOF for him.

Deep at WR so it was probably an easy decision to let them go and get a little something. Id double dip at WR and use that extra 4 on a value slot WR.

Not necessarily for a run-first team. We’ll see.

Looks like he will be good for 11 games for his past experience. Do we wait until week 6 to start him?

Does this mean the Chargers offered him the most money, or that he preferred to play for the Chargers over these other teams?

In 10 years did he sign more than 4 FAs in mid-season? Seems every year folks are screaming at TPB for him to do something and he never does. Idunno … I only like discussing TT for the humor now. There ‘s no intellectually interesting purpose.
