Looks like MG3, the Bolts Bell Cow Back, has turned into a Bum Steer...

I wonder what his trade value is? Colts would be deadly with him.

I am watching UDFA Jeremy Cox...size & athleticism with no hops.
Gordon was business savvy enough to not convey his intentions prior to the draft. He knows the Chargers don't have a true starter at RB behind him, or at least he is hedging his bets on this. Ekkie can't carry the load and will get banged up if they try to run him as workhorse/starter again. Justin and Newsome are hardly proven commodities. Seem to me that Gordon has leverage right now even with his past shortcomings/injuries. He runs hard, isn't easy to bring down and adds a lot in the passing game. The guy also rarely fumbles. No one on the team currently comes close at the RB position.

A trade or FA acquisition should be in order if MG is not willing to be reasonable by Training camp time.

Am curious, how much cap space would we clear for this year, if we traded him for draft pick(s)?

Austin is a great change of pace guy and should continue in that role.
Let Detrez, the UDFAs, and a possible vet FA battle it out for the other roster spot/touches.

Short but decent ride with MGIII but time to move on. An oft injured RB with a degenerative knee is not where to invest a ton of cap $.
I'd like to get some value for MG3 while we still can if he won't play ball. Hate to see him just sit and get fined while we get no real benefit on the field. Hopefully something good comes of this for the Chargers organization.

I'm guessing, if it's the Bucs or the Fins, a second rounder next year and a fourth or fifth the following year. No way the Bolts get near what the Raiders got for Khalil Mack...

I would never even think that the case. Mack is a top 5 player in the league. Its not even close imo. Bosa would bring much more than Gordon. The RB market and pass rush market are 2 different beasts.

If ya can't get a deal or find a good trade.....F Gordon. He has missed a bunch of games, especially down the stretch and playoffs. Make him sit until week 10 and be fresh for the playoffs. Then franchise him next year and draft a stud in a deep draft. He doesn't like it? He can sit for 2 years, get fined up the wazzooo and then good luck getting a huge deal at 28 after sitting 2 years and missing 2 prime career earning years as a RB.

Report: Chargers RB Melvin Gordon Will Demand Trade, Skip Camp Without New Deal

July 11, 2019 at 1:01 pm Filed Under:LA Chargers, Melvin Gordon
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) -- Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has reportedly told the team he'll demand a trade and not report to training camp if he doesn't get a new contract.
Gordon, in the fifth and final year of his rookie deal, is set to earn $5.6 million. A Chargers team spokesperson told CBSLA that they do not publicly discuss contract negotiations and will not be making an official statement regarding this matter. However, it is widely known per the collective bargain agreement that the 2-time Pro Bowler could be fined up to $40,000 a day if he doesn't report for camp, which begins for veteran players on July 24.
"If we'd gotten a respectable offer, we wouldn't be here," Damarius Bilbo, one of Gordon's agents, told NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. "But he felt disrespected. He's very serious."
Gordon ranks 27th among running backs when it comes to average annual salary.
The versatile and bruising back is a big part of the Bolts offense, with more than 1,300 yards from scrimmage in each of the past three seasons and 38 career touchdowns.
Although he's missed most of the Chargers' off season workouts, he did attend their mandatory minicamp in June.
The Chargers may be weighing the production of the other running backs on the roster (Austin Ekeler, Justin Jackson) versus the risk of paying big money to an established running back who missed time last year due to injury. The crosstown Rams have had plenty to think about regarding the health and huge contract of their star rusher, Todd Gurley.

Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Never should have signed that contract if he wasn't intending on playing it through. Can't give in to his demands or other players will do the same to the Chargers organization. If a trade can't be made or he won't come down to a realistic price, let him sit and fine him at the maximum amount.
