I'd let him go for a 2nd and 4th pick next year. Especially if it is a team that would not do that well this year.

Asking for a 1st as a starting point is smart. I'm sure we'd take a 2nd.
This whole this is a mess because we see other teams pay their guys.
But we also have a lot a lot to worry about in the next year or two. I wouldn't want to keep gordon at the expense of a healthy Bosa for example.
May the same time the cap keeps rising and a few more million for Gordon doesn't matter for example in 2021-2022. It'll likely be pocket change.
But either way, he isn't coming back until week 10 and I just hope the team continuity and player attitude is right. Because in hindsight, assuming we are playoff bound, a healthy new toy isn't a bad problem to have.

So reports are that Zeke will get close to 90 mil for 6 years. So about 15 mil a year. People are saying he is resetting the RB market. I don't see it that way.
He is just as or more valuable to the cowboys offensively than DAK IMO. Melvin is nowhere near that valuable to the Chargers. Zeke isn't resetting anything for guys like Melvin.
Melvin is a better back than what we've got in ekler or Jackson, but he's not a game changing RB.

15 million dollars a year for a RB in 2019 is insane. RIP Cowboys future if that ends up being the figure. Anything more than 10 million a year for top of the line bellcow running is nothing more than a weight around the team's neck. Any benefit you're getting from having one of the best runningbacks in football is offset by the destruction of your roster.
The running game has never been more important. The running back himself has never been less important.

In our pass oriented offense he just isnt as important of a cog in the system. We can get by with less of a back without as much impact. It doesnt hurt having more talent but it doesnt floor the offense. Jackson has the right skillset to make the offense work effectively and he has some upside. He may make some mistakes but I think its not a bad direction if it ensures getting Bosa, Ingram, and other key players signed the next few years. Imo TT is doing this right. Gordon just has his value twisted up..if he had never missed a game he would be in a different situation.
