If he has a monster year, pay him going rate- or Franchise him 1 year at a time like they did with Sproles. If he gets dinged up again or has a subpar year, he needs to take a team friendly deal or they draft his replacement.

Looking at mocks this year, you could have a guy like Bryce Love sitting there in round 5. If that's the case, jump on Gordon insurance and groom it. If he gets injured you're covered. If he stays through the tag and walks, you have a very low tread replacement ready to go.

RB is the easiest position to fill in the NFL, even if you have to go to a committee. My 2021 Adopt-A-Bolt List

The main benefit to another Gordon contract is you know exactly what you have with him and don't have to groom him. Over paying is never a good idea, but going rate for a productive back isn't horrible in the big scheme.

I would hope that having an ex rb coach as our head coach would translate to being able to find and utilize young, lower round, rookie deal backs effectively enough to not have to pay for one injury prone, work horse veteran.
