Hard to believe, but the Chargers really do control their own destiny to with the division. If they win every remaining game, they are AFC West champs.

Between now and the bye, if we can beat the Raiders, and also either the Packers or Chiefs, and get to that bye...I think we have a heartbeat.

I think even injured like we are, we have the talent to knock off the Packers...but we can't drop footballs, miss tackles like we have been...and perhaps most important? The coaches need to call an imaginative, inspired football game. Remember Lynns first season, when we came back after a rough start, to have a respectable finish? We seemed to play like we were having fun, with a ton more diverse and aggressive play calling...least thats how I remember it. Played like we had nothing to lose...that is how we need to play from here on out.

I hope when can pull this one out of our ass...it certainly isn't impossible...cuz if we beat the Packers, this team is gonna have some swag back, rolling into the 2 division games. Fingers crossed.
I think its good to try and stay positive and hope for the best. As die hard Chargers fans, we are a very small group and would all like our team to do better. It makes it even tougher when no one in the media ever cares about the Chargers and most root for the Chargers to lose, so that their favorite teams win and they have something funny to joke about...... the monday after the Chargers futily lost to TEN, the sirus NFL media were all saying they were so happy that the Chargers lost to TEN.... they were happy that the Chargers were finally back to being the old Chargers again......... they actually said that..... and laughed.... they can do that because there are not millions of chargers fans.... the numbers are in the thousands only.....

The worst part of the Chargers problems this year, is that our mistakes/weaknesses are exactly thew same mistakes EVERY week this year...... and we also had some similar issues(like not being able to tackle and stop the run) last year but we covered it up some by being more aggressive and scoring more points and injuries and playing way more conservative have made it impossible to cover up those flaws this year:
        • we have not been able to tackle in any game this season
        • We have not been able to stop the run in any game this season (not being able to tackle is a b ig part i=of that)...
        • Team commits stupid penalties at all of the worst times...... an OL should NEVER hold on a running play...... ONLY reason to hold is to save your QB...... yet chargers regularly hold on running plays and a hold will kill even a good running game and Chargers are not good...... Chargers also line up offsides...... and use up too much time on a regular basis...... all of these things are indications of bad bad coaching....
        • our offensive play calling is super super conservative and predictable.... = bad coaching....

In red zone, the Chargers play for the FG by running and throwing ball short of end zone ..... as if we did not realize we were already in chip shot FG range....... yesterday, there were goal line plays where Chargers had every pass pattern run outside of end zone.....and handing off????...... not even using pass routes deep inside of end zone as decoy to take defenders away from goal line???? the end zone was empty!!!????? ...... brilliantly stupid play design!!!!......... I had to replay the video multiple times to confirm that Chargers coaches were really that stupid......
and Cears saw how badly that worked and did that same thing to us?????? lol = bad, bad coaching......

Last year, Lynn was conservative but still way more aggressive than this year.....

It appears that based on last year and the pre season press, most people thought Chargers defense was going to take a big step up and become one of the top 3 or so dominating defenses in NFL.....
so Lynn came into this season assuming other teams will not score much so Lynn changed our game plans to be about playing super conservative and waiting for the other team to make mistakes and give us the games..... like Marty did.......

Lynn has Rivers user up all 45 seconds of every play....... which chews up the clock, limits total number of possessions, causes penalties for running out of time, shows defnse when to send blitzes since they know that ball is being snapped at 2 second mark, and keeps the total game score down.......falsely making our defense appear better and keeping us from being blown out. Lynn also is obsessed with forcing the Chargers into being a power running team, which anyone except Lynn can see that we clearly do not have the personal to be. Lynn is also blind to realizing that this Chargers personal is best utilized in an aggressive no huddle type of passing attack all game long...... not just after we are 3 TD's behind.....

What Lynn does not seem to realize is that conservative "marty" type of game plan gives Chargers about 1 possession per quarter and therefore forces the Chargers to play perfect mistake free football to win..... any little mistake gets magnified and we end up losing....... in contrast, if you have a more aggressive game plan where we dont waste the clock, and we have multiple possessions each quarter, we can make up for a slow start, we can make up for a fumble or INT, we can make up for any other kind of stupid mistake......

Look at Brees...... he has averaged about one pick per game his whole career, but because he is running an aggressive offense that scores 3, 4, 5 for more TD's per game, they usually make up for any mistakes Brees makes..... no one remembers his picks because the number is trivial compared to the number of TD's scored....... but if Rivers throws a pick or one is tipped and picked etc...... Lynn will only give chargers very few opportunities to catch up and make up for that mistake...... Chargers must be perfect or we lose......Lynn still milks the clock when Chargers are multiple scores behind!!!???......

A great head coach should want his defense to shut out teams and get turnovers...... a great HC should also want his offense to score as many TD's as possible......... every game!!! like bellycheat does.......and Reid.......and payton.......

DEN, CHI and Chargers have horrible clueless HC's........ its sad that Rivers has only had conservative HC's in his career..... imagine the records and wins Rivers would have if Rivers ever had an aggressive HC who would always have a gameplay designed to score as many points as possible???? like brady, brees, manning, etc......

If the Chargers only had one bad game this season, then art might be a player problem, but when teams always lose close games because of bungling errors......that is because of horrible coaching.......that is fact....

blowout losses are because of lack of talent...... close losses are because of bad coaching....... BUT owners and many fans dont understand that....... they are ok wirth losing close games because they falsely think the team is very "CLOSE" to being great........ but the reality is unless we change the coaches we will never be great......

And the other huge issue this team has is worst ownership in football....... the spanmos's refuse to spend money to extend Rivers or acquire any REAL OL, or REAL DT's...... we have seen many teams making trades for OL and DL, LBers, and DB's...... yet chargers with even more extreme needs than the other teams do absolutely nothing!!!!????????

Only players Chargers add are unemployed cheap guys off the street.......that no one else wanted......

If some how the Chargers can pull off the upset maybe this could be the game to swing the momentum for them to get on a roll, I don't think this team is capable of running the table by going 8-0 to finish 11-5 which may get you in the playoffs, but a lose here they would need to win out to somehow remotely have a chance with a bunch of unprobable dominos falling there way with 7 wins in a role 10-6 who knows

This team will probably beat the Packers than get blown out by the Raiders. So much inconsistency, I'm surprised the Packers favorited by more.

Some good points in this thread. Thanks for posting.

I too would like to see Rivers in a more aggressive, Mike Martz style offense. Lynn is such a turnover-phobe that he makes things tense. Trying to turn Rivers into a game manager is like driving a Porsche in the middle lane. Total waste of skills.

Chargers can't run because they don't have the personnel for it. The sooner Lynn figures that out, the better. Except i think he is too stubborn to ever admit it. And maybe took too many hits as a player?

So more like the Norv offense that attacks vertically more? There's a good reason we don't run it anymore, we don't have the talent for it on OL. Remember the reason McCoy was brought in to "fix Rivers" and he did that by installing the offense we see now.

But every 75 carries there is a chance that MG could break a big one, so we have to keep trying! It's gonna be executed properly eventually!

                  /insert sarcasm

But seriously, we are built for a dink dunk passing first offense. The playcalling should be adjusted to suit it.

Do you know what you are talking about??? "There aren't millions of Chargers fans, thousands only"?!?!

                    Insane talk.

Thousands as in the 30,000 that went to the Rams game last year? You are right if you are referring to Los Angeles only but ...

The Chargers have at least as many if not more fans Nationwide/Worldwide in my opinion than the: Jaguars, Texans, Titans, Ravens, Bengals, Jets, Buccaneers, Falcons, Panthers, Redskins, Lions, Rams and Cardinals. That would put us in the middle of the pack. I go on Twitter and when the @NFL puts out a tweet the majority of responders are fans of the Chargers, Steelers, Packers, Cowboys, Patriots. We have more than thousands of fans around the world in my opinion and if we only have 999,999 fans then so do those other teams I mentioned or less.

Pass to set up the run.

Vertical passes? Some. Some short, some middle, some long ... any which way you want except STOP running on 1st down, getting nothing, and then forcing Rivers into an obvious passing down. I said to my son on the 3rd and 9 that this is where Rivers gets into trouble and then two seconds later he throws a pick.

Pass first, run second. We do the opposite. Not smart.

You are missing the point grasshopper. It was 3rd and long. Obvious passing down.

Pass to set up the run.

                          Dont run first.
