That team was the Los Angeles Chargers, who won 5 games in 2019.

In the 2020 draft the Chargers picked at #6, 1 slot ahead of the Miami Dolphins, who also won 5 games in 2019 but had the tie-breaker over the Chargers.

If the Bears' rookie kicker had made that FG in 2019, the Chargers would have won 4 games and would have picked ahead of the Dolphins in 2020, with both Tua and Herbert on the draft board.

Whom do you think Telesco would've picked? He has indicated Herbert was always going to be his pick, but I don't believe him. Tua was considered the better prospect, I believe Telesco would've picked Tua.

The Bears rookie kicker who missed that 41 yd FG in 2019 is Eddy Piñeiro, who is now the 49ers' kicker. Do we have him to thank for Herbert?
I would like to pay a Canadian beer to Eddy !!!!!!!

I didn't consider Tua the better prospect - Several of us here strongly supported Herbert over any other pick, and did not want Tua at all (pre-draft). I have never seen any reporting that Tom really wanted Tua. I'll take Tom at his word.

Tua was ranked higher than Herbert on the draft boards. He had won a national championship for Alabama. Alabama was a powerhouse in the college rankings during his tenure. I believe Telesco would've drafted Tua over Herbert because at the time it would be seen as the safer pick. That is what the Dolphins' GM did.

So, that pregnant drunk Raider fan gives birth to a future Raider fan:

I understand that, you're right about the pundit consensus herd. I think it was the Bama Natty imo that put Tua above Herbert with the herd. In early Feb, based on the herd reporting, I believed Tua > Herbert.

But between Feb and April I watched tape on both and by the first week of April it was obvious to me that Tua didn't have a top NFL arm, he was a slow runner, and he often looked great by having the best 2 WRs in NCAA frequently open by 10+ yards and a great dominant OL. He threw a lot of long ducks at Bama but his receivers were so wide open it worked. I didn't think that would work in the NFL. I watched Herbert tape for what I was told were fatal flaws and I didn't see things as I'd read. Instead I saw a guy who could made any throw imaginable, throws Tua couldn't begin to make. I saw a great athlete and playmaker with much better accuracy than described (he was described to have horrible accuracy, we've all seen he actually is damn accurate after all). And I saw a big time athlete big league QB, which I prefer. Tua in contrast looked breakable and small. I have never liked small NFL QBs, prob never will. just a personal peeve for me.

So I wanted Herbert and not Tua by the draft. There was only 4 or 5 of us here in TPB, you're right about consensus. I'm not saying I was a majority, gosh no. I only posted to show there was different opinions and Telesco may have told the truth. I think the top player wanted in TPB was Simmons or the OT.

Telesco said he wanted Herbert; I can believe that because that's who I wanted. I've heard they started scouting Herbert a year earlier, I've never heard they scouted Tua much at all. you of course don't have to believe it - its all good and I have no magic secret vision into TT's true soul.

One thing I'm sure of is we will never hear Telesco say he wanted Tua now. Not after Tua's implosion in MIA lol. If you're right, that secret will remain buried.

Justin Herbert reportedly was Telesco`s number 1 prospect the year before.

Telesco was asked that draft to give his prototypical QB and he said Phillip Rivers.

Pretty certain it would have been Herbert.

                    I remember hearing that, too.

I could be wrong about this, but I thought I remember hearing Telesco being asked right after the first round if he would have taken Tua at #6 had Herbert gone #5 and he said yes.

That was a weird offseason, and not just because of Covid. I was hoping like crazy that Brady wouldn't choose to sign with us, as it was clear that's what Anthony Lynn wanted.

My sister attended a Raider's game in Los Angeles once, and she described a melee after the game, I believe on the field, in which cops were beating Raider fans who were out of control.

She expected it significant enough to warrant the news medias attention.

What a silly idea she had.

Yep...Raider fans have a bad rep for a reason...here's a weird story for you...I used to know a guy who was NOT a Raiders fan, but he used to wear a Raiders jersey a lot, because he got all kinds of free food items from die-hard Raider fans who worked in taco trucks, restaurants, etc...as soon as they saw that jersey, they shouted, "YEAH, RAIDERS!!! For YOU, it's FREE!!!"
