Joe Brady was one of the names associated with the Chargers head coaching vacancy this time last year. Now he's out as OC in Carolina. That is brutal. After all the dysfunction the Panthers forced on him, with trading Teddy Bridgewater and replacing him with Sam Darnold, then giving up on Darnold and bringing in Cam Newton in mid-season. Add to that the ongoing injuries to the team's best offensive player - Christian McCaffrey - the offensive woes in Carolina are hardly his fault.

A Look Back at The Toilet Bowl, College Football's Last Ever 0-0 Tie
The addition of overtime has assured we will never get to see another 0-0 tie in college football or another game quite as hideous as the 1983 Civil War between Oregon and Oregon State. Others have tried to surpass this football abomination. M00N did their best, or worst. The Crapple Cup tried to give us the worst possible rivalry game, but had the misfortune of scoring points. Frank Beamer started celebrating when he thought he could add this coveted title to his storied career. But points were scored in those games, and at least one side was able to add another W to their record. The 1983 Civil War was a perfect storm, and the game will always live in infamy as The Toilet Bowl.
Background
The Stakes: were very low. Entering the game Oregon State was 2-8, while Oregon was 4-6. Bowl games were not on the menu for either programs; Oregon State's last has been the 1964 Rose Bowl, while Oregon's was the 1963 Sun Bowl. Oregon had won the previous seven games, with coach Rich Brooks never having lost the Civil War as a player or assistant at Oregon State, or as Oregon's head coach.
The Animosity: of this game, particularly among two conference bottom feeders, is what kept this rivalry relevant. 2019 marks the 123rd Civil War, despite the game being skipped a few times - for reasons including the prospect of violence between the students and fan bases. The 1911 game was cancelled due to the prospect of violence, and the 1912 and 1913 games were played in the nearby town of Albany, at a temporary 10,000 seat stadium for which a local cigar merchant paid $500 to a team of carpenters.
Other events, which would most likely be prosecuted as crimes now, include: the kidnapping of Oregon State's homecoming queen for ransom. The duck-napping of the live mascot Puddles. Several thousand Oregon State students driving to Eugene before some of them were caught, forced to strip, and either thrown into the millrace or forced to repaint an O on Skinner's Butte. One year 25 Oregon students were captured in Corvallis after lighting the Oregon State bonfire early, and were painted orange and black before being forced to perform menial labor in the frat houses. In 1972 a mass brawl erupted when Oregon State students attempted to protect one of the two remaining goal posts after an Oregon victory. Oregon State coach Dee "The Great Pumpkin" Andros said the game was played for "the right to live in the state for the next year."
