Yes, quite the experience. I was 'only' 52 then. Very, very tough hike (not really a 'climb', per se; it's walk up route). I lost 15 lbs in 7 days!! The stress your body is under above 15,000 ft (considered 'extreme altitude') is considerable. Eating is a chore. Headaches, nausea. Sounds like fun, huh? LOL! Funny, we spent the night at 18,000+ (after summiting) and hiked down the next day to around 14,500 ft and...it felt like sea level. The air actually felt rich after being at 19,456 ft.

Impressive, Roo. And probably a big reason why you have made it this far. Not everyone is so blessed.

P.S. I'm 70 and can still do 15-mile hikes with a backpack. Sounds like you need a personal trainer.

Posting this for football value but also because I love seeing and hearing Mina Kimes.
                    I heart MK.

Wrong about me; wrong about the Chargers. It adds up.

Sorry, Old Smokey... I've just never seen a 70-year old out on the trail.
Kudos to you if you're still strapping 25-lbs to your back, sleeping on a thin pad at night, and hiking 15-miles/day...

And if you saw me, you wouldn't think I was 70. I've been active all my life, running, cycling, working out...even some outrigger canoeing when I lived in SD.

I do almost exclusively day packing, maybe 10-12 lbs, in the foothills, canyons, gulches, and lower mountains in the Boise area. I go twice/week in the good-weather months (April-November), ranging anywhere from 8 miles to an upper limit of 15 (which I've done on a few occasions). Beautiful country up here. A typical hike is 10 miles, up to 2500-ft elevation gain, all with Maizie, my German Shorthaired Pointer, who usually doubles the mileage that I do. LOL!

Believe what you wish. Or come with me on a hike the next time you're in town. I can slow down for you.
