I agree, he is not a long-term answer. He is 31. He has the aforementioned athletic limitations. So have a lot of other OL we have had. Mike Goff was a cornerstone of our OL for years under Schotty, and he had some athletic limitations. Both are the 5 best OL, making them the weakest link in the OL. But if you just judge them on whether they are playing well (absolute sense, not relative grading)
Guys like Goff and Schofield are guys you are always on the lookout to replace. But how high a priority is it? Given his age, and the fact that we always need OL depth, moderate. We need to develop someone to replace him, especially if it takes a year or two. Maybe James is the guy, but we won't know because we can't see him in practice.
The idea that we are going to spend 4 draft picks on the OL is simply silly. Extrapolating what F21 points out above, we need some quality players to come in. We are limited to about 8 or 9 OL (again potentially at the cost to other position groups). Add in the extra developmental guy, that means of the 5 starters, that if we have around "4" other rookies, they would have to be the backups at C, OG and OT. Can we get enough guys who can play with the draft picks we have? I don't see us having enough quality draft picks. And that is not addressing the D at all, and given who are FA, I think we will need to use some on D, which has been an even bigger weakness than OL this year.

But he also is excellent at pulling and trapping and pulling and leading across the formation and lately, he is simply outstanding at the double teams in our zone game. His pass protection has been pretty good overall.

The point is both are limited players who get beat in pass protection. Goff used to get beat by quick players all the time, and we were a run 1st team most of the time he played, which helped hide his weaknesses in athleticism.
The point is when you are grading on a relative scale, someone is ALWAYS (by definition) the worst player. It is going to take all our quality picks to get multiple OL to help the team it would one, not help the team immediately (it would take several years to pay off), and the biggest weakness on the team is NOT the OL.
The biggest weakness is still the D. We gave up 174 yards rushing to the Raiders tonight. Gave up the same number of sacks, and for a good part of the 4th quarter, we were forced to throw on every down. This season, we gave up the most points in the 4th quarter of any D EVER.

Yeah the D is shit but Herbert is the team period. One of the Many hits he took from the right side tonite looked like he might have been injured.Finish the o line before fixing another section of TTs failures. And yes TT has failed at his job and better be fired. How many years and 2 PO appearances?Enough with mediocrity.Im disgusted.

This team is more than one off season away.
Telsco will still be here next year; however, are there any performance based expectations for the guy?
Another mediocre year next year and he'll be back again.

The coaching staff is so damn young and inexperienced; and they surround themselves with people even younger.
Staley is bright, but there is so much the guy doesn't know, and there is no one to lean on. Its like watching a guy trying to figure things out in the dark.
At least we don't get to see Belichick coach circles around him in the playoffs.
