    Numbers

Fuaga’s 3.4% pressure rate ranked 39th out of 199 qualified FBS tackles (min. 350 pass-block snaps). He did not allow any sacks, though, tying for first. His 4.5% true pass set pressure rate ranked 20th. (True pass sets are pass plays with a dropback time between 2-4 seconds, no screen or play-action, and at least 4 pass rushers.)

When adjusting for an FBS average rate of true pass sets, Fuaga’s pressure rank rises to 37th. With a pro-adjusted true pass set rate, his pressure rate rank rises to 30th.

Of the 12 pressures Fuaga allowed in 2023, none were sacks and two were quarterback hits, giving him a 16.7% rate of highly impactful pressures allowed. The FBS average for tackles was 29%, as was the NFL average. Fuaga did a good job of keeping his quarterback upright, even when he allowed pressure.

As a run-blocker, Fuaga led all FBS tackles with a 90.9 Pro Football Focus grade. That included a 91.3 zone-blocking grade (1st) and a 78.9 gap-blocking grade (3rd). He was a much more zone-heavy blocker than gap, blocking in zone 61.3% of the time compared to just 27.5% in gap. Statistically, that would seem like a perfect fit for the Jets — a dominant zone run-blocker.

    Summary

Joe Blewett said that he thinks Fuaga could be a really good guard at the NFL level more so than a tackle. He added that Fuaga’s lateral quickness is not elite, but he moves well vertically in space.

Fuaga’s lesser pass-blocking statistics compared to the other tackle prospects despite playing an easier schedule is somewhat concerning. Overall, he is known as a better run-blocker than pass-blocker, which is not ideal for what the Jets are seeking.

Still, compared to Fashanu, Fuaga seems to be a more pro-ready player. If the Jets have a choice between the two, it seems they’d be more likely to go with Fuaga due to his success as a zone blocker in college. That is likely why Jeremiah mocked him to the Jets over Fashanu.

      Statistics

In 2023, Alt’s 1.4% pressure rate ranks second-best out of 198 qualified FBS tackles (min. 350 pass-blocking snaps). He has allowed five pressures, two quarterback hits, and one sack the entire season, albeit on just 368 pass-blocking snaps. His 3% true pass set pressure rate ranks seventh.

Furthermore, Alt’s 1% adjusted pressure rate (adjusting for an average true pass set rate) is the best among all FBS tackles. This is because his 45.1% true pass set rate is the 11th-highest among tackles. The NFL average for true pass sets is 49%, which means that Alt is far closer to an NFL distribution of play type than many other FBS tackles. For reference, the true pass set rate of Penn State’s Olu Fashanu, widely considered the top tackle prospect, is 37.2%. Alt has shown his capabilities in a far more difficult context.

Alt’s Pro Football Focus run-blocking grade is also excellent, ranking second out of 159 qualifiers (min. 300 run-blocking snaps) with an 86.5 grade. This includes a 90.3 zone grade (third) and a 75.4 gap grade (sixth). He has a 40.3%-53.8% split between zone and gap-blocking. For the Jets, who still love their zone-blocking scheme despite evidence that it is not as effective as other run schemes, Alt checks the box.

In terms of penalties, Alt’s 356 snaps per penalty ranks 30th out of 187 tackles (min. 650 block snaps). He’s not an outrageously penalized player.

The 2023 numbers above are relatively similar to Alt’s marks in 2022. He had an identical 1.4% pressure rate in 2022 after posting a 2.7% mark in 2021. He had a 90.8 run-blocking grade in 2022 after beginning at 77.3 in 2021. His 807 snaps per penalty in 2022 and 522 in 2021 were better than this year’s. Still, he has four penalties total on 2,041 block snaps, or one per 510 snaps, which would rank 16th this season.

Apparently, Alt made a jump from good in his freshman season to excellent in his sophomore year and maintained that level of play as a junior.

Alt’s biggest issue showing up on film is his susceptibility to the bull rush. He often allows the defender to hit him first and drive him deeper into the pocket. Although he usually recovers, this can cause a skittish or inexperienced quarterback to abandon the pocket. It will also allow pass rushers coming from the opposite side to squeeze the pocket and leave the quarterback with nowhere to go. His vulnerability against the bull also shows up in the run game at times.

Alt does a nice job on stunts, at times using his drag hand to effectively diagnose them.

He is not 100% consistent in the run game, but when he uses his long arms properly, he can completely stonewall defenders.

One other thing that sometimes comes up in Alt’s evaluation is that he doesn’t have that nasty instinct teams love in offensive linemen. Some of the run plays above demonstrate that he can be quite powerful at times, regardless of his need to destroy his opponent.

      Summary

While Fashanu has the best reputation as a left tackle and is likely a better pass-blocker than Alt, Alt is the more complete player. If the Jets remain at No. 8, they likely will not be able to draft him, as he’ll probably be the first or second tackle off the board. Still, if he’s available when New York comes on the board, they should run up with his name.

Nobody is bitching at Fuaga at 5. He looks like a dominator. Great legs, and I’m a leg man.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
        Let’s win one for Mack.

Nabers is still my favorite player in the draft. I’d love to see him on the Bolts. If we only had another top 10 pick I’d be in heaven.

There is a reason why Georgie tried to get him the ball behind the fucking line of scrimmage. Not common for typical TEs. He might even be able to play FB so we dont have to draft one. You know...when hes not lined up inline...slot or perimeter. He can go in the backfield. He is much more than just a flex TE. I hope he runs...i expect 4.5's
What I been saying as well.

Is that private workout for one team or he is working out for all the teams to see?

I don't really need to see him do anything but would like to see his 40. And if it is a 4.6, I don't care, good enough for me but think he will top that.

Id still like to trade down a little and get him. ATL don't need a QB now so they won't trade up but maybe the Bears want a WR at 5.
Going back to 9 saves us over 10 mil on his contract and around 2.2 mil on his cap hit which is good for us this year anyways.

Honestly, I don’t even care what he runs just watch the tape. So what if he runs 4.6 or 4.5. .1 seconds isn’t going to make a difference. 40 times are over-rated, IMHO.
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

I know but I'd like to see it. Matters to me more if they play fast and he does.

No its a workout thats open for all teams. Mims will be there as well. I think its the 12th of April. Titans have filled holes and Bowers would be a good fit as they added RB and WR. I could see them thinking Bowers helps Levis. They need other pieces but they are in play for him imo. Okonkwo isnt terrible but hes no Bowers. They need OL also.

If we really want Bowers i might not take too many risks with it. That Giants trade would be ideal.

I get it, it's fun to watch and see if run times back up what you are seeing on film.

In the case of Bowers if he is running over players, running away from players or breaking tackles does it really matter if he runs 4.5 or 4.6?

That is why Georgia was always trying to get Bowers the football whether he lined up on the LOS or behind the LOS the guy is football fast and that is all that really matters.

I want to see one of these 300lbs oline run a 4.4 one of these days....lol
