Ronnie Stanley, Zack Martin (who switched from left tackle in college to guard in the NFL), Quenton Nelson, and Kyle Hamilton are All-Pro players who went to Notre Dame. As a projected top ten pick, Joe Alt is considered to be in their class, not Jerry Tillery's or Manti Te'o's or Chris Watt's or Drue Tranquill's. Calling Alt a reach with our pick just because you want someone else is not being truthful.

By all draft charts I have read from the pundits and analysts - if the Chargers are at 5 and at least 3 QBs are gone - its a Nabers or Marvin

All I heard on here for years is that Telesco reaches for Notee Dame guys and now the guy is barely out the door and y'all want to reach for a Notre Dame guy. Habits are hard to break

And I did point out that on this play, Alt steered the edge rusher enough away from the QB to allow the throw...but...my concern is that in the pros, Alt will see the pocket getting pushed more so that the QB on a lot of plays won't be able to step into the pocket and will need to stay high...and that could be a problem for edge rushers quick enough to beat Alt outside...Example: If Alt is at RT matched up against Maxx and Crosby takes the outside speed move, they now have Christian Wilkins to push the pocket...if Herbie feels that inside pressure, he may have to scramble one way or another...and one of those ways is into the arms of Maxx...hope I'm wrong on this, but just want to make sure we get it right if we pick Alt @#5...

But who in this draft is gonna do any better at pass pro, IF they want a tackle? Olu maybe, but he isnt overall the tackle Alt is, or even Fuaga or Latham...and I thought you were one of Pips biggest detractors? Its gonna be a first rounder or Pip, IMO...nevermind if we stick at #5...pick your poison, TPB...and quit worrying about what FANS consider a reach...

It's not a big deal. Not like every GM is going to use his draft board. But you know, there are times teams will go back and look to see if they missed something if a guy just runs a faster or slower 40 than they expected. It's just something to talk about. Bucky Brooks and whoever else was going a mock I think yesterday and Jeremiah was there on zoom along with Zeirlien and they weren't using his draft board. They just asked their opinion on players.

Agree its not a big deal, just another reminder to take all experts with a grain of salt. They have to produce lists, its one of the products they get paid for. The variation just confirms what we all know intuitively - nobody is "sure" and there really is no possible secret expert way that anybody ever could be sure. But they speak with confidence and authority, so they are believed.

Credentialism ... I tell ya! oh, I could go on ...

Ill go one better...could a consensus 10 to 15 ranked player, possibly be valued higher by Jim and his staff, and end up being 5 or 6 on THEIR board?

Something to consider:

There's a reall good chance Bowers is the best TE in this class duh.
There's a decent chance Alt is is the best OT in the draft, sure.

But I see a much smaller chance that MH2 is the best WR in the class with soooo many talented WRs.

That is very likely true- but doesn't fully inform a decision. the reason MH2 "may" be closer to other WRs is not because he is not elite, but because there are a few that are elite and then many that look very good.

I think Alt's separation from a few other OTs is less than most believe when projecting to RT. I disagree with that draft profile "weakness" report - I see his ability to slide and pick up speed rushers as his biggest strength, better than other OTs in this draft. If we needed a LT, I think he shines with his length and control of speed rushers, he's the guy. And if we needed LT, he's hands down the pick without question.

I see his pass pro weakness is against strong power rushers where his length becomes a disadvantage when he tries to anchor. NFL coaching could fix that, technique could improve that significantly. His rush blocking is generally effective but never overpowering. at RT, I'd like to see more of a rush block mauler who can also handle most pass rushers, but maybe thats the wrong way to think about it. maybe they value the speed pass pro more, and value the LT insurance he offers - both for injury now and for future Slater contract concerns.

Lots of guesses on what the "Harbaugh OT" is - the LOS mauler, the protector, etc - we'll perhaps find out in a couple weeks and everyone can stop guessing.

will be there @37. This may be different if we needed a LT, we don't.

If the pick is 5 - this is the correct answer - -take Nabers or MH2. No brainer

If the pick is lower - that could change who they take
