Nabers is a more direct replacement for Keenan - took over 50% of his snaps from the slot and had like 15 times the number of broken tackles as MHJ. Bowers can do it too. So Nabers or Bowers. If it comes down to it I think they have to go with the receiver due to the massive contract discount you get. Is there any scenario where they can trade down and still get Bowers?
Never thought of QJ as an X. But that’s just me.

had bad games against elite pass rushers. We did not help him as other teams do when this happens. Better TE help and RB blocking would fix the
issues. Better run game needs OGs and Center along with a decent RB. And by the way the blitz usually came from the left side not the right.

When we lost Williams and Allen for some games the offense went to shit. So WR is also a problem area. QJ did not solve the issue.
Do you remember JCJ’s penalty at the end where if he just allowed a reception and tackled the clock runs out? Fucking idiot, we all should have known when his arrival was distracted by a fucking family court case back in NE.

Lets take a look for example at Gates, he has 2 career 1000 yard seasons and he's a top HoF caliber TE.
Compare that with Allen, who while Pro Bowl Caliber is probably going to be fringe HoF caliber at best if he has enough longevity. Allen has 6 1000 yard seasons.

Look at the draft 3 years ago, even if Pitts had matched his projections, Atlanta still would be regretting passing on Chase given how he's turned out.
I sorta disagree. You are right if they are running a WR spread but that is not what the Chargers will be running. They will mostly be running 2 WR's and 2 TE's when they are not in a jumbo. One of those TE's will be lined up over one of the tackles the other will be lined up over the other tackle, in the slot, or at the HB/FB position. In Harbaughs system the TE's are going to have more impact than the WR's, IMHO
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

Not I and this is why:

          1. If Hortiz decided to stay at 5, I'm happy to assume there was not a great enough offer, and that's fine by me. "draft-rape" or nothing. how horrible is that term BTW?
          2. Bowers may in fact be BPA and if Hortiz decided so, I have "new GM faith" in that.
          3. Bowers is NOT a TE. I stopped calling him a TE months ago and encouraged ya'll to do the same. He is as far from a TE as he is a WR. You wouldn't call him a WR right? Yet he does many WR things. Why not call him a fullback? or RB? he does that too, and would likely be doing that here.
          4. Roman. We have the 1 or maybe 2 or 3 OCs that would absolutely know how to utilize a special talent like Bowers, I think Payton is another and hope he doesnt land in Denver.
          5. Roman. This offense is ahead of the pendulum swing. Our offense will be copied by everyone in the ensuing 5 years.

It was supposed to be humorous but somewhat true at the same time...it really depends on your sense of humor here...

Of course not, will never be pissed at getting a blue chip prospect.

Personally I am NOT a fan of multiple trade downs just to accumulate a bunch of average dudes. Take the generational talent (whoever you think that is) and don't overthink it. Of course I his is assuming we aren't offered a king's ransom.

I still haven't gotten over passing up on Polamalu just to trade down and draft Sammy freaking Davis and Terrence Kiel. Never again.

A.J. Smith was the ONLY person who thought that was a good idea. When that trade was made, I felt the same (although lesser) gut-punch feeling I had when I found out that Duane Allman had died. You can't afford to make a move like this unless you are CERTAIN you're right about those later picks, and you DO, in fact, turn out to be right.

If Hortiz trades down and acquires a pick that's used to raft Braden Fiske, though, I would be geeked. Then again, Braden Fiske is no Terrance Kiel.

Right now, the Chargers don't have an X receiver.

Drafting someone to play the position and having the position filled is not the same thing.

And an offense focusing on slot receivers and tight ends is more bent towards taking advantage of PR's skills, not Herbert's.

I think Telesco never got out of that mind set.

He even said that his model for drafting a QB was PR.

                      Herbert is a different cat.

Still liking MHj/Fiske 1/2 if no trade down. Get needed OL in later rounds.

You make good points about Bowers as he's kind of a Swiss knife type of player.
