It's interesting how much Brugler has certainforum favorites dropping to the 2nd round. Guys like Greedy Williams, Dalton Risner, Mack Wilson, Taylor Rapp, and Kaleb McGary. It means we do have choices at the 28th spot. No need to trade up.

Could be. He's guessing like everyone else. Jeremiah's last mock draft has certain guys like Risner and Wilson falling into the second round as well.

Brugler is one of the most respected pundits out there.

He must like Nelson as an EDGE guy who can kick inside.

Lockstep first two picks and on it before you, Dane.

Yeah....really hate that his production doesn't match his skills though as he has top 5 talent. He would be good value based on his abilities, but he has high Bust factor IMO.

If his work ethic and drive equal his raw physical talent then he'll be a monster. If not, then the average starter label or bust if he washes out.

Polite would be @ #60 for me.
TT always wants more pass rush juice, so this is a Chris McCain replacement.

The introverted factor is exacerbated by Polite getting poor advice on how to prepare for a pro career.

The pass rush skills are there.

Tough for me to say but I've seen anywhere from mid second to early 4th.
Watched some video on Jaylen Ferguson. He could be a radar guy around 4th round? Though his explosion numbers aren't great. Looked good against lesser opponents though.
Another intriguing guy is D'Andre Walker. He has some tools probably a 3rd-4th? Could fall maybe to 5th because his position is kind of no man's land but think he would do well at DE for us.

Former Missouri quarterback Drew Lock headed to Los Angeles to meet with the Chargers on Monday, according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero.



L.A. also had former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones in for a visit last week.

Lock played 50 games at Missouri, completing 56.9 percent of his passes for 12,193 yards with 99 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. Many have linked Lock to Los Angeles because of the fact that even though he's talented, he is still raw in many areas, thus making it a perfect opportunity to sit behind Philip Rivers for a couple years.

The Bolts signed Tyrod Taylor as Rivers' backup, but the team still appears to be doing their homework on this year's quarterback class as they continue to think about the long-term future at the position.

Rivers has said he expects to play beyond the 2019 season, and the Chargers have plans to talk about a contract extension. After a phenomenal 2018 campaign, it's challenging to guess when he's going to slow down, but the veteran quarterback can't play forever.

Whether it's due diligence or Los Angeles is in serious consideration of drafting one, they are better off withholding until next year when the talent pool will be a bit deeper.

The linebacker position for the Chargers seems to be set on paper with Jatavis Brown, Kyzir White and Denzel Perryman coming back healthy, and the addition of Thomas Davis.

But the depth behind them is lacking, and it appears they are looking to the 2019 NFL draft to fulfill that as former Akron linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III is set to visit the team, according to Draft Wire's Zach Hicks.



Los Angeles is quite familiar with the Akron football program as they drafted Brown in the fifth-round of the 2016 NFL draft. Brown has had success when healthy, so they want to see if they could land another talented linebacker from that.

In his college career, Gilbert had 353 total tackles and 3 interceptions. His numbers dropped off after being moved to strong side linebacker for his senior year, but his junior campaign was phenomenal. In 2017 he posted 141 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 7 passes defensed, and 3 interceptions.

The three-time All-MAC linebacker projects as a Will linebacker at the next level, where his speed and range can be aptly utilized. His remarkable athleticism should enable him to have success tracking running backs out of the backfield and matching up against athletic tight ends.

The Chargers have put in effort to shore up the linebacker room with the retention of Denzel Perryman and signing of Thomas Davis, but it appears they're not done with addressing the position.

Los Angeles recently met with former Alabama linebacker Mack Wilson on a pre-draft visit.



General manager Tom Telesco made the point that the position will get a lot of attention this offseason. But after the acquisitions of Davis and Perryman, it's questionable whether or not they will address it early on, especially with the other positional needs.

Even though it's not as pressing as offensive tackle, defensive tackle or free safety, Los Angeles could still elect to take one early on with injury concerns in mind. If that's the case, the reason to take one within the first few rounds is valid because this year's linebacker class is not quite enticing as prior years.

Wilson is a traditional, explosive three-down linebacker who fits suits today's NFL. He can close running lanes, flow sideline to sideline, and generate tackles for loss. If L.A. felt like he was their guy, the team would most likely have to grab him before the second round because he's graded out as a top-60 player.

Here is Chargers Wire's 2019 NFL draft profile on Wilson.

Wilson is a capable middle linebacker. He's at his best playing in space, off the line of scrimmage, and chasing the football. Wilson has short area quickness to defeat blocks and burst to close to the ball. His lateral agility allows him to make plays both inside the tackle box and on the edge. He continues to impact the game in multiple ways each week. He can play in coverage, showing to be one of the best in this aspect of the game at his position, and on special teams.

Wilson has natural playmaking instincts when combined with his athleticism, it puts him constantly around the football. Wilson is an aggressive player that shows no hesitation attack running backs. At the next level, he'll need to do a better job of showing consistency. Making the jump from his sophomore to junior season, Wilson didn't grow much development wise. He must reign in his aggressiveness a bit, especially with his pursuit angles and making tackles in the open field, too.
