This team isn't moving back to SD with our without a new owner. They have an awesome deal at SoFi. No one is paying LA prices to move a team to SD. It's like buying a tank of gas in CA right before hitting the AZ border.

Even if you think a new owner wants their own stadium they can buy land in LA and save a massive relocation fee. The LA market is so much bigger than the SD market. Heck, OC alone has roughly the same population as SD county.

An owner isn't getting subsidies in either place so why would they pay extra to acquire a team in LA and pay humongous relocation fee to move to a market less than 1/4 the size?

Totally agree. SD is done for this team. Sadly, likely for any NFL team as SD has idiots running that City who would fight it unless they pay for everything coming with them. They really screwed the pooch on the Chargers. Almost didnt get the Padres stadium built.

Not sure why a new owner would want to move them back to SD unless he is from there.

People are more interested in moving a team to Las Vegas these days. LeBron James wants to buy a NBA team and take it to LV. There is a good possibility the A's may be coming to Las Vegas where their triple A team is already at.

We have the Turds, the Golden Knights , and WNBA team...or whatever its called lol.

I think voters in SD felt they were better off without Dean Spanos. My $.02.

I seriously doubt she or anyone is awestruck by Dean's competency, or his sons'. She wants to wrest control of the Spanos trust away from Dean and package the trust's 36 percent ownership with her 15 percent ownership and offer majority ownership of the franchise up for sale. Frankly, I'd welcome new ownership with deep pockets. The Chargers are a cash poor team, there are so many mouths to feed in the Spanos family, and I'm telling you this is going to become an issue when it comes time to pay Herbert.
The trend is your friend. No one is saying Dean's a genius at football but there have been some bumps in the road from San Diego which turned into distractions. McCoy and Lynn were subpar coaching so they take the blame for that. But, they also get credit for turning things around a bit! If they had sold two years ago she would get half of what the teams current market value is. So is Dea some kind of rocket scientist investment guru or just a free rider trying to get as much as possible for doing nothing but complaining. Yes, she has a lot tied up in this with very little power so they do need to do something.

I think the voters didn’t want another downtown stadium, and misunderstood the plan to pay for it. With the Chargers plan, at least the revenue was from tourists rather than the city itself. But the hotels didn’t want that to happen.

Nevada and Las Vegas gave the Raiders $700 million. They slashed their education budget. SD is doing much better with its budget intact and not having a football team. Yeah, Vegas is a desirable destination for pro sports franchises because they get government funding. That doesn't make it a good investment for the people in Vegas.

Don't know how in the world they can misunderstand the plan to pay for. They are either dumb or just didn't bother to read it or listen to it at all..... Which many people Dont do.

Lots of misinformation from the hotel industry. Faulconer didn’t help either. He lent his support too late. And then tried to use the same tax idea years later to pay for a new convention center.

All it took was a clever slogan to repeat, "no tax money for rich owners"
                  SD drank the kool aid.

Downtown SD was the last chance for the Spanos clan to make it in San Diego, but it was going to be an uphill fight, mostly because of all the poor dealings the city had with the Chargers on the old Stadium which managed to turn the city taxpayers against anything the Chargers did. I do think that Dean tried his best, given his family's finances, but just lost to the better organized hotel cartel. Because his ultimate goal is to keep the Chargers, he has taken the path of least resistance, too bad it wasn't Las Vegas.

Ultimately, I hope this case will force a change in ownership, but I really doubt it, and is just a family squabble. The Spani are small-time, and trying to make it in the big pond, where they couldn't even do it well in a much smaller pond.

I think Dea just wants her money, while she's around to spend it:rimshot:, and small time in this context is very big time!
